Cat and Moose Backpackers
Reviewed October 14, 2013

We enjoyed our stay at this basic but amiable backpackers, centrally located in Cape Town. It is quieter than other backpackers in the area with a chilled out vibe. The kitchen is well equipped and the lounge comfortable. We had a huge room out the back away from the street which made our stay very enjoyable.

Room Tip: Ask for one further off the street for a more peaceful sleep.

Lovely hostel. Very clean and chilled out atmosphere. John and Nathan are both very helpful and make you feel at home. Hot showers are great.

Great value for money too, I paid about $10 per night to stay in an all female dorm. Most of the people in my dorm were older than me (30s upwards), so it was very easy to get a good night's sleep.

The Cat and Moose backpackers was my last hostel after travelling the Garden Route of South Africa, and I really had to get used to the difference with those more relaxed, clean and personal backpackers where I stayed earlier. The Cat and Moose is ideally located at Long Street and they can organise a lot of trips for you and the staff is really helpfull and friendly. The downside was that it was busy and therefore the showers and toilets where dirty (although they cleaned it everyday). It was exactly how I pictured a hostel to be before I had the experience with the other hostels in SA. It was oke (especially for this price and at this location), but for me no more than avarage.

We had a very good time at this hostel, staff was very helpful, self catering kitchen is big, the room was also big and comfortable, bathrooms was clean, the building is nice and has a very good vibe to it. And being on Long Street, location is great.

I stayed at the backpackers for a week visiting various places in Cape Town with a friend. The staff was very helpful and friendly in helping to book tours and transportation - definitely recommend wine touring, shark cage diving, and Robben Island for anyone visiting the area. The hostel is clean and has a great location on Long Street near many restaurants, shops and grocery stores. Long street tends to get a bit noisier on the weekends, however the hostel is located far enough away that noise is minimal. The hostel is only a 25 minute walk from the waterfront and truly is located in the heart of the city. Large kitchen and refrigerator if you prefer to prepare your own meals and good security as the gate into the hostel requires code and staff always available.

Friendly staff that are very knowledgeable about tours and offer helpful hints, very clean environment. Close to everything day or night. Weekends tend to get a bit of street noise, but it is a good safe place to stay

Room Tip: Weekends tend to have street noise.

I spent here more than ten days. the place is nice and the position also at the top of long street.
the staff is kind and close to the hostel there is the turkish bath whit a covered swimming pool.
the hostel has wifi connection but you must buy credit to use it, however on long street there are lot of pub - bar which have free internet. my favourite was long street café, i spent about one hour to drink a coke while i was using the internet and nobody complained.
