A corner of pure England grafted on Cape Town, dressed with some exotic flavour. The house is located perfectly, mostly if you should like to test and taste the restaurants and bars of the Gardens area, but it is quite close also to the CBD. There is no garage, but you can feel absolutely confident and park your car in front of the house: space for parking is not a problem, and the area is not dangerous at all.
The rooms are comfortable even if not extremely spacious, furnished with taste and with all the necessary comforts. The only drawback could be the limited size of some of the bathrooms, which are also unheated. Nontheless, this cannot be regarded as a drawback, because it is the South African standard, like sand in deserts and pengouins in Antarctica. Just try to skip Cape Town during the few cold days of the winter (what we haven't been able to do...).
Breakfast is wonderful, with tasty omelettes and fresh fruit salad, served by the always smiling Lisa and Nita. The menu changes slightly everyday, so you do not get bored eating always the same food.
Nice paraphernalia: a wonderful terrace, a complete collection of books and guides on Cape Town and tha Cape, complimentary sherry, tea and rusks.
But the real jewel of Liberty Lodge is Ruth, an exquisite blend of manager, homemaker and perfect British host, that can transform every breakfast into a soft social occasion. Let yourself be driven around by her encyclopedic knowledge of restaurants, cultural attractions and Capetonian customs: she is never wrong!

Room Tip: Limited mobility guests may ask for the ground floor rooms.

If you want comfort and service and be in the best neighborhood in Capetown - Liberty Lodge has it all. We spent 6 nights at Liberty Lodge and from the moment we arrived, Ruth, the owner, was a continual source of information about the city. EVERYTHING that she recommended was a winner. Waking up to views of Table Mountain right from our beautifully gardened terrace was quite a way to begin our day. After soaking in the morning sun and views from the terrace we were ready to race downstairs for Lisa's fabulous breakfasts. Granola, yogurts, fresh cheeses, croissants, toast, coffee, tea. NO! that's not all - for "cooked" breakfast, if you like, Lisa makes the most beautiful omelets and griddle cakes. Then we were off for the day with great suggestions from Ruth to supplement our guide books. After touring all day we'd return for a respite with some fine sherry, a nap, a new set of clothes and off to one of the many really, really fine local (like walking distance!) restaurants! With food that fine we decided on neighborhood dining each night. So we never had to take our car out in the evening.
Our neighborhood was safe, our room was quiet, comfortable and clean - with a stand right outside our door to make ourselves some tea or coffee with some fine cookies available. Ruth is the BEST, and so is Liberty Lodge - we WILL be back!

Ruth at Liberty Lodge provided us with the perfect 'second honeymoon'.  Her stylish, Victorian guesthouse is perfectly situated within walking distance of lovely and interesting, assorted cares, bars and restaurants. Ruth is full of local knowledge and provides a homely but immaculate place to stay. Great breakfasts too. We'll definitely come back and thoroughly recommend this charming guesthouse and hostess.

What a lovely place - could not have asked for a warmer welcome. It's a cozy yet elegant, beautiful place. The breakfast was superb. Ruth, the host, could not have done more for me. The only downside was not having tea and coffee facilities in the room itself - I was reluctant to use the facilities on the landing when I fancied a cuppa at 3am in case I disturbed other guests. But otherwise, a perfect place, great location - and views of the mountain.
