Mountain Magic Garden Suites

We stayed for a week, very pleasant owners who went out of their way to make us feel welcome - including providing breakfast for our first morning. The location is great and in good weather I am sure the views are breathtaking. The place was spotlessly clean but in need of a paint.
However the suite was limited - particularly trying to cook for 2 small kids on a basic 2 ring hob - no grill or oven. The layout of the suites (pretty much all one big room with wardrobe partition) also did not really work for us - once the kids were asleep we kind of had to go to sleep too!
And yes, the smallest TV in the planet.
I think this accommodation is great for those who can get out and about every evening, but not ideal for those with a very young family like us.

It is always a disappointment when guests are disappointed. That's why we describe the suite and the facilities in every detail on the booking sites. We do not plan to install grills or ovens in the kitchenettes, because most guests do not cook huge meals in the suites regularly, it is not how they were designed. We find the electric frying pan, 2 ring hob, microwave and toaster works well for the majority.

Regarding the layout of the suite, bear in mind that you booked the suite described on the marketing site as "semi open-plan," which is exactly what it is. Our Mountain Magic Suite, occupied at the time of your stay, has 2 bedrooms, and is a much better lay-out for families with small children who scream a lot. I disagree that we are not an establishment suited to families, as a matter of fact, about half of our visitors travel with children. That is why we do not charge for children under 9, and also have 2 cots available, one of which you utilised (free of charge).

We arrived in Cape Town with no accomodation and on the off chance enquired at the Mountain Magic. Kon and his staff went out of their way to have a suite prepared and make us feel welcome. Thrilled by the location, the views, the comfort and the convenience of our suite, we extended our stay to 5 nights.

I found our suite needed to be updated, as the TV we had was the smallest colour TV I have seen in a long time. The sleeper couch was not comfortable and we also found the shower to be very small with only shampoo available in the bathroom. I had to go and buy toiletries as we always get these when staying in a guest house. The hairdryer had no adaptor and this I also had to go and buy. The owners I found to be very pleasant and the studio was neat and clean.
It just needs an upgrade. On the Sat morning it was very noisy from 06h45 as it sounded like people working in a house there and large machinery being used like steam cleaning carpets.
The studio also needs an aircon as it was extremely hot during the day and night and the fan did not help much. Receiving a breakfast for the next morning was a nice touch and very enjoyable.

Room Tip: Corner unit very hot and noisy

Hi Lesley, thanks for your review.
We always like to know where we can do better.
We will definitely look into getting bigger televisions and air-con units.
I would, however, like to correct a few facts:
There is indeed an adapter plug in the suite. Either me, Nolitha or Nolunthu are also there to help if an extra one is needed, and my cell phone is always on.
We provide a bar of handmade olive and mafura soap in the shower room and a dispenser of body soap in the shower.
The suites are serviced on weekdays, so I can guarantee that it wasn't us working the heavy machinery at 6.45 am. On weekdays, Nolitha and Nolunthu come in at 9am and they are very mindful not to disturb guests who like to sleep in.
We hope to see you again and that you will find our facilities more comfortable next time.

We were looking for a comfortable place to stay for a family of 4 for 12 days - this was our first time ever in Cape Town and South Africa. Given our highly energetic children of 9 and 11 it was important for us to find a place they could move around freely while being safe. This place is ideal as it has it all: big and comfortable rooms, a kitchenette, a terrace, a garden and a swimming pool . It also has a braai (grill) in the garden that you are welcome to use.

The apartments are situated in a quiet yet quite trendy neighborhood – it offers stunning views of the mountains, a large selection of restaurants for every taste (and pocket) and it feels safe.

Unlike in other self-catering apartments, you will find the food in the kitchen for your first breakfast and the rooms are cleaned on weekdays. There are also beach towels available so you don’t have to bring your own if you prefer to leave room in your luggage... For a family of 4 it does make a difference (we know as we brought ours from the other end of the world – well, almost).

The place is ideal as is, but what makes it even more special and unforgettable is the very owners. Con and Nui are just superb hosts – we felt as if we were staying at friends’ place… They are welcoming, super friendly and helpful: be it a late night arrival, a plug adaptor malfunction, an early morning doctor search, an on-line ticket booking, what-to-see-and-where-to-eat tips … the list could go on – they are out there for you, always smiling, always willing to assist.

It was a perfect vacation and a home away from home for us and superb value for money. We are definitely planning to be back there one day…

Our son is 17 months old, so my wife decided that we should try self catering instead of a hotel and how right she was!

This place is super, with big comfortable rooms, a kitchenette, sitting room, a garden and a swimming pool - plenty of space for our son to play and being able to make porridge for him on demand was great.

The (new) owners Kon and Nui could not be more helpful, from a smiling meet and greet, helping with our cases and even going to buy us a plug adaptor for our appliances.

We found the location to be perfect - stunning views of cable mountain and, although a quiet residential area (and consequently felt very safe) easy walking distance of the many bars and retaurants on Kloof st.

If you hire a car (and think is is probably a must) the house is a perfect springboard for table mountain, camps bay( ten minutes away) and even going further afield to the winelands or the Cape of Good Hope. It was also very convenient to get into town, and the aquarium and the waterfront is great for kids of all ages.

Only (very very slight) word of caution is that a support beam across the centre of the roof would pose a danger of head clunking to anyone 6ft2 or over - though we were here for ten days and it only happened to me once...

All in all a truly great stay and, when you factor in the cost, absolutely amazing value - couldn't recommend it highly enough for a family vacation.

Room Tip: We stayed in the mountain magic suite

My family stayed at the Palm Garden Suite for 3 nights and had a fabulous time. The 2 kids really enjoyed playing in the garden and the swimming pool. Our suite consists of one very large room with a large closet which separtes nicely our bed and the living area with a single bed for our daugther and a sofa bed for our son. There is a small kitchen and dining table to cook small meal, which we used a few times. Our balcony overlooks a lovely tranquil garden with chairs and braai area. One night we bought some meat from the supermarket (3mins by car) to grill at the main braai area on top of the swimmining pool. The table mountain view from there is simply magical. My kids just love this place and we will definitely come here again when we are again in Cape Town.

Room Tip: Palm Garden is large enough for 3 adults or family with 2 small kids. Next time when our kids are bi...

We were in the Mountain Magic suite which had the best ever views from our bedroom! we also had use of the garden which had a great pool and lovely BBQ area. We used taxis to get into town which were really easy, using a freephone number from the apartments. It was great as a family to have a space to chill out. But maybe the best thing were the hosts Kon and his wife. Nothing was too much trouble, they were so helpful. especially sorting out us getting our lost property from the airport. They made our first few days in Cape Town very special, just what we needed. I would definately stay here again. The sheets etc were first class.

Room Tip: I would recommend the Mountain Magioc Suite for the best views ever
