It was a educational experience, especially concerning the racial divisions that existed in the sport before the end of apartheid. A parallel existed in the sports history of the United States and in our national sport, baseball. Baseball was segregated and there was the whites only major leagues and the blacks only Negro leagues. In breaking the color barrier baseball truly became a national sport in the United States and so has rugby for South Africa with the inclusion of all the races.
Enjoyed the interactive tests and the concluding film. I was with my daughter on our South African journey, having lost a wife and mother in March of 2013 and she walked away moved by the museum's rugby experience.
Played rugby in the States from 1970 - 92 and resumed playing in 2014 with an old boys team. I am one of the teams senior, senior citizens at prop.
