Owner description: The Springbok Experience was nominated for the International Award in the 2014 Museum + Heritage Awards in the UK after opening on SA's Heritage Day in September 2013. It is a world-class, modern interactive museum telling South Africa’s story through the eyes of its most powerful sport. It's a fun and entertaining experience for the whole family and is a ‘must-do’ attraction at the heart of the V&A Waterfront in Cape Town. The museum features more than 60 audiovisual displays where visitors can watch the history of South African rugby unfold, set among cases displaying historic objects such as famous trophies, jerseys, boots and other memorabilia. It makes a perfect venue for exclusive corporate events as well. And there are games for children and adults alike where they can test their kicking, passing, fitness and reaction skills in the interactive ‘Springbok Trials’ games zone. There’s also a flagship Springbok Concept Store for those who just want to shop. The Springbok Experience is a museum – but much more than that.If you’re wondering what to do in Cape Town, you must visit the Springbok Experience.

“A walk through South African rugby history for an American.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 2, 2014

It was a educational experience, especially concerning the racial divisions that existed in the sport before the end of apartheid. A parallel existed in the sports history of the United States and in our national sport, baseball. Baseball was segregated and there was the whites only major leagues and the blacks only Negro leagues. In breaking the color barrier baseball truly became a national sport in the United States and so has rugby for South Africa with the inclusion of all the races.

Enjoyed the interactive tests and the concluding film. I was with my daughter on our South African journey, having lost a wife and mother in March of 2013 and she walked away moved by the museum's rugby experience.

Played rugby in the States from 1970 - 92 and resumed playing in 2014 with an old boys team. I am one of the teams senior, senior citizens at prop.

Dear rlisaint, the parallels with baseball are resonant and your perspective is very illuminating. You can't tell rugby's story in SA without telling our political 'story' and I'm sure the same applies to baseball in the States. Thanks for your visit and the review and we're glad you enjoyed the day. And best of luck with the Golden Oldies. Hope they've got you in the pink shorts yet!

“Fab despite the faulty equipment”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 31, 2014

Went here with my 17 year old son who doesn't play or watch Rugby, but we both really enjoyed our visit. You begin your experience with a number of techie tests to measure your rugby ability, it seemed to work well for my son but for me it gave inexplicably Low scores. Well worth a visit, historical and sporting interest and good value.

Dear David T, Thanks very much for the visit and the review and hopefully your son looks a little more kindly on rugby. And we know what you mean about the equipment - a lot of dads and husbands complain when their children or wives beat them on the challenges.

“Very interesting.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 29, 2014

As an Australian, I am very passionate about my rugby.
This was a beautiful and unique opportunity to learn about the history of rugby in a neighbouring country but also a country that has consistently shown its strength.

It's very interactive so be sure to spent plenty of time here and make sure you stop at every exhibit as there's so much to learn here and so much to do.

“Springbok rugby review”

There was a lot of information about the Springboks rugby history and they didn't shy away from the problems of the past. As rugby fans we thoroughly enjoyed the visit and the new information we learned.

“nostalgia at it's best”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 28, 2014

had a great time taking my dad here, he played with some of the greats. I felt like a kid again, looking at all the old photographs and remembering seeing the likes of Danie Gerber play at Newlands when I was 5/6. Happy memories!

Dear ReneJupp, We're so glad we brought back some memories for you and your dad. Obviously there's no truth in the rumour that nostalgia is not what it used to be! Thank you very much for the review.
