Owner description: Signal Hill is so named because it was a site for flying flags to communicate weather conditions, thus providing opportune vistas of spectacular views.

Great way to get your bearings in Cape Town. Definitely wait for a clear, sunny day. An easy drive up the hill.

Very nice drive up the hill, was not to busy and the paragliding company was in full swing with the tandem flights. An Ice cream truck provide with desert and the weather was excellent.
Was the first time there and we where not disappointed.
I will include in the future a ride to the top in my road bike.
Not as high as Table Mountain but a different view of the sea and the city, highly recommended if you have some time to spare.

Signal Hill is perfect for the best view over the city of Cape Town,...on a clear day...but people should not go there by themselves. It is too isolated and unless going there between 11am and 12pm when the Noon Gun is fired, there won't be people around. Go in groups and wait for a sunny day.

We walked up to Signal Hill through the Bo Kaap area at the end of Longmarket street. A steep walk. We didn't go to the summit of the hill, we only went as far as the old army base where they fire the noon gun. This was one of the highlights of our stay in Cape Town. The views of the city and Table Mountain were fabulous. The history behind the Noon Gun was very interesting and hearing and seeing the canon being fired was a great experience. As there were only a few of us there it felt like we had stumbled across this ancient tradition that very few people are aware of. Worth doing.
