“Very interesting and just the right size”
Reviewed April 4, 2013 via mobile

I knew nothing about South African Jews and found this museum to be a real eye opener. There was an exhibition about the Jews of District 6 which was very enlightening. And I loved how it's not a gigantic place where you get lost for hours.

“A Jewish Place of Worship and History”
Reviewed March 31, 2013

The old synagogue is used as a museum describing present Jewish life and history. There is a small exhibit of old religious articles that survived the times. Downstairs there are replicas of houses in the ghetto and life size pictures of ghetto life. The atmosphere is informational, factual and non-emotional.There also is a non-related collection of Japanese miniatures, netsukes.
The new synagogue consists of a large prayer hall and has an architecturally pleasing interior. Prayer services are conducted at a very regular times.
There also is a nice kosher restaurant on the premises, where you can meet people from all over the world, sometimes even people you know.

“I LEARNT AN AWFULL LOT”
Reviewed March 31, 2013

Centrally located to the side of the "Companies Gardens" in down town Cape Town the Jewish museum is easy to find and has plenty of car parking for a city centre venue. My advice is just go and make your own mind up. But GO!
