With the surrounding mountains and luxury homes hanging down over the cliffs, what an amazing amphitheater for a series of beaches. Very cold water, but white clean sand.. A perfect spot to sunbathe, watch the beautiful people and relax...

Most beautiful beach in Cape Town and all the beautiful people hang out here as well. Come early to find parking

Cape Town is known for it's crazy wind, but the Clifton beaches ere sufficiently sheltered and perfect nearly every day. The busiest beaches are 4th and 2nd. We like 3rd beach because it is a little quieter. The beaches are clean and there are sellers who sell cokes, water and ice cream to the beach-goers but they only accept cash.

There is not a lot of parking to the beaches and it can get very busy over public holidays. Beach goers do have to walk down a lot of stairs to get to the beaches.

4th beach is where you'd go to show off ;)

If the sun is shining then this is the beach to go to. The water is freezing but all the fashionable folk make it worthwhile.

I used to live in Cape Town, so frequented Clifton a lot in my youth. On a recent trip back, we went to Clifton beach a few times. One has to descend a number of steps to access the beach, but it is worth it, especially on a day when most other beaches in Cape Town are very windy. It is advisible to get there early to get parking, but in the off season, it is not usually a problem. It is possible to rent beach chairs and umbrellas. Life guards were on duty when we were there. There are 4 beaches. 1st beach is tough to get to. 2nd and 3rd beaches are great. 4th beach is the most popular for families with kids. It gets so hot, that one usually has to brave the cold ocean temperatures for a quick dip. There are change facilities and cold showers at the beach. Roving sellers will be happy to sell you cold water, pop or ice cream. You have to try the "Granadilla Lolly" (a tropical fruit flavoured popsicle)! Although the beaches here are safe, is not advisable to leave one's belongings unattended at any beach in South Africa.
