“BEST VALUE IN CAPE TOWN”
Reviewed November 20, 2006

This is a luxary youth hostel for grown-ups. Facilities include free phone calls to local restauants, a library, internet access, complimentary port and best of all an honesty fridge in the kitchen.
Gorgeous breakfasts- full english, pancakes, aswell as a continental buffet with meats and cheeses.

Loves the relaxed vibe, the friendly service, and the FANTASTIC rooms with the most comfortable beds in the world!

Close to everything and round the corner from the famous Mount nelson.

My wife and I completed a 27 day cruise recently , disembarking in Cape Town. I had found An African Villa on the Web, and booked directly. We had a most enjoyable stay with Louis and Jimmy and their excellent staff. This is a B and B above and beyond what you might normally expect. I recommend it wholeheartedly.

Confirmation of what everyone else has been saying - this is a wonderful place to stay and I didn't feel we'd missed out at all by not being in the Waterfront area, quite the opposite in fact.
Everything about this property works - great breakfasts, reasonably priced laundry, free Internet, honesty bar etc. I really hope the standard is maintained and that complacency doesn't set in after all the rave reviews.

This boutique hotel in an upscale residential area offers outstanding style and value. Great surprises were spacious rooms, a computer in the lobby with free internet access, and the tasty, healthy and satisfying breakfast included with the room. We saw both standard and superior rooms and although the standard room was fine the superior room was a great value given the small upgrade cost. Finally, the staff was very helpful in arranging airport transfers, quality private tours, adapters for electrical plugs, change for large notes, etc.

The downside is they are often fully booked so be sure to inquire months in advance, especially for the months of November through February.

Without pause I can say this is in my top 5 favorite places to stay, worldwide. I found a cozy atmosphere, friendly owners, great proximity to restaurants and shopping, more excursion suggestions than I could comprehend...this is the absolute best possible combination between hands on and hands off.

If I could make a suggestion - it would be to invest in a quieter keyboard for the (very useful BTW) community computer as the noise can be a right bad start to one's day. But, this feels so much like the home everyone would want to keep - lots of guests, comfortable, stylish - it cannot fail to impress even the harshest critics.

This Villa is much more than that! It is in fact three houses which are part of a Victorian terrace dating from 1892. The double story houses have been joined together and so the inside spaces are much larger than the facade suggests. It's like walking into a TARDIS someone has written on Tripadvisor! There are 12 rooms and the hotel is owner managed.Location is vital when choosing a spot for you vacation and this more than a Villa is within an easy walk of all tourist attractions in the city area. The others (like the fabulous beaches) are a short taxi ride away. There is a small plunge pool in a peaceful courtyard where a very full breakfast is served in summer. (In winter there's a sociable dining room and an eco-friendly fire blazing). Your hosts are very careful to offer you as much information as you want and they will arrange car rental, restaurant reservations, tours etc. As required.Free internet on 2 computers in a library area and wireless access is available in all rooms. At night the night porter will set out complimentary sherry and port and at other times there is an honesty bar and guest fridge in the kitchen. Parking is on street and there is no charge (street guards patrol) but you should not need a car from this well placed hotel. ... more   less
