“Great boutique hotel, high attention to detail”
Reviewed January 20, 2014

Stayed two nights here in January 2014. The staff is great and makes you feel at home. Breakfast is superb and the room I stayed in was well appointed and very comfortable. Fast wifi, great communication, and great location makes this an easy choice in the future.

Sophisticated and welcoming, An African Villa is a highly recommended home away from home in Cape Town. Louis' greeting upon arrival set things off on the right foot... his passion for Cape Town and for hosting guests was clear. We were provided with excellent recommendations on dining and attractions, and came home from a day in the town to find our reservation slip clipped to our front door (nice touch!). Such attention to detail...direct phone line to the local taxi service; honor bar in the kitchen stocked with wines, beer and bottled water; rooms replete with amenities; gorgeous and tasteful decorations; extremely friendly management team. And, as an added bonus for us, we were lucky to get to meet the house puppies... adorable. We will be returning to the Villa!

An African Villa is my business trip home of choice. It's well-located in relation to the city centre and a very quick drive against the traffic to the southern suburbs. It's rates are comparable to those of the big hotel chains and, instead of a sterile box with a tired breakfast buffet, you get to sleep in stylish, individually decorated rooms (I've slept in almost all of them) and enjoy a fresh, abundant breakfast served by cheery staff over the local newspaper. The staff are very friendly and helpful and there is plenty of information for tourists at hand and practical assistance for bookings. The guest house is very tastefully decorated, with airy, modern rooms and lovely bathrooms, and can be found up a quiet street away from the bustle of traffic but close to the vibrant Kloof Road and Long Street, with plenty of good restaurants nearby. There's a good view of Table Mountain from the pool area. My only gripe is the availability of parking, which is on-street and often full if you're the last one in at night. Nonetheless, it's always the first place I check for availability when traveling to Cape Town on business.

After travelling to almost 50 countries, this has got to be my most favourite guesthouse of all. The decor is spectacular and the owners and staff are exceptional. The attention to detail is exquisite. One of the owners, Louis was extremely helpful even before we arrived, to help schedule Christmas dinner for us, as we were to arrive on Dec. 25th. We corresponded a number of times as he investigated the options and recommended restaurants that he thought we might like. I can not recommend this B&B highly enough. I didn't want to leave, and will definitely return!

Room Tip: Rooms on the second floor at the back, will give you gorgeous views of Table Mountain

My husband and I stayed here for three nights and it's a great place. Keith's hospitality on arrival was very friendly and warm and he was keen to help us with our itinerary and restaurant bookings which was much appreciated. The rooms are lovely and everyone working here is great. The location is also fantastic and we had no problem parking close to the hotel or driving anywhere in Cape Town from here as it has great access to major roads/freeways.
Breakfast was also very nice and the 'honesty' fridge wines were really decent but not at all expensive.
Don't hesitate to book!

Fabulous hotel, full of colonial history. Staff were amazing, the view up to Table Mountain was an iconic backdrop, we've been here twice and stayed in different rooms, scrupulously clean and a charming honesty box in case you want a drink or snack late at night. I loved this place and wouldn't hesitate to go back.

Room Tip: If you can get one, the rooms at the back have a stunning view up to Table Mountain.

Stayed here for 3 nights at the end of our trip to RSA. The team were very helpful (especially Louis). Rooms were big (our 1st floor room at the front with a balcony was the best). There's lots of useful information about getting around Cape Town if this is your first visit. The B&B is located in a really nice location in Cape Town (in my opinion), and there are plenty of bars & restaurants nearby. Parking is nice and easy. Would definitely consider staying here again when (not if) we return.

Room Tip: If you can afford it, go for the most expensive rooms (1st floor at the front, with balconies). Its...

This Villa is much more than that! It is in fact three houses which are part of a Victorian terrace dating from 1892. The double story houses have been joined together and so the inside spaces are much larger than the facade suggests. It's like walking into a TARDIS someone has written on Tripadvisor! There are 12 rooms and the hotel is owner managed.Location is vital when choosing a spot for you vacation and this more than a Villa is within an easy walk of all tourist attractions in the city area. The others (like the fabulous beaches) are a short taxi ride away. There is a small plunge pool in a peaceful courtyard where a very full breakfast is served in summer. (In winter there's a sociable dining room and an eco-friendly fire blazing). Your hosts are very careful to offer you as much information as you want and they will arrange car rental, restaurant reservations, tours etc. As required.Free internet on 2 computers in a library area and wireless access is available in all rooms. At night the night porter will set out complimentary sherry and port and at other times there is an honesty bar and guest fridge in the kitchen. Parking is on street and there is no charge (street guards patrol) but you should not need a car from this well placed hotel. ... more   less
