“Beautiful and convenient”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 9, 2012

We chose An African Villa after reading reviews on Trip Advisor. It certainly lived up to our expectations. The hosts were kind and thoughtful, our room had a view of the cable car station at the top of Table Montain and the breakfasts were freshly prepared each day. The location was good, close to the stop for the Big Bus tours. We found some lovely restaurants within walking distance which was what we needed after tiring days touring the beautiful city.

This was our first time staying in a boutique style hotel and it did not disappoint. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. The rooms are spacious, clean and quiet. The washrooms are a decent size as well. The Villa is located in a convenient spot allowing you to walk and discover all sorts of interesting restaurants and shops. We rented a car for a couple days and had no problem parking it out front of the hotel. Only downside is if you like to sun tan by a pool you have limited space in the courtyard. Cape Town is a beautiful place and staying here was a great experience.

Beautiful decor, relaxing atmosphere, outstanding breakfast, stellar hospitality. Rooms very comfortable; quiet and pleasant neighbourhood within walking distance of good restaurants.
Owners are exceptional hosts. We stayed 5 nights; we felt both pampered and right at home. Would love to go back. We highly recommend this hotel.

We stayed 4 nights in one of the platinum rooms - our own veranda overlooking a quiet residential street. Our car was safely parked on the street when we weren't using it, and we were within walking distance of town. The hospitality, ambiance and attention to detail made it a delightful experience.

Room Tip: Room 32 had a lovely tree that screened the view of the street.

I would highly recommend this place to anyone wanting to spend a bit of luxury time in Cape Town. The location is great - central enough to be close to the action, but not as busy as some of the places you could stay. The owners are fantastic, they work very hard to ensure a great stay, including offering port or sherry every evening, and sitting down with you on arrival to orient you to Cape Town, and the dos and donts of the city. If I go back, this is where I'll be staying.

We spent a total of 7 nights at An African Villa. It is everything we dreamed of, and more! It is situated in a quiet neighborhood outside of Cape Town with easy access to excellent restaurants (our favorite was Miller's Thumb), and a $5-$10 cab ride to various locations to the downtown waterfront. The owners and wait staff were excellent, and the accommodations superb. For something to remember An African Villa, we purchased three artistic ostrich eggs that now sit above our mantel in our living room. We highly recommend An African Villa!

Room Tip: We stayed in the suite, which we highly recommend!

An African Villa is a lovely, relaxed independent hotel. The owners are fantastically helpful, friendly and welcoming. We felt chilled out and calm from the moment we arrived - and the bed was the most comfortable I've slept in in ages. The hotel is nicely away from the busy waterfront tourist area but still central enough. Highly recommended.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
This Villa is much more than that! It is in fact three houses which are part of a Victorian terrace dating from 1892. The double story houses have been joined together and so the inside spaces are much larger than the facade suggests. It's like walking into a TARDIS someone has written on Tripadvisor! There are 12 rooms and the hotel is owner managed.Location is vital when choosing a spot for you vacation and this more than a Villa is within an easy walk of all tourist attractions in the city area. The others (like the fabulous beaches) are a short taxi ride away. There is a small plunge pool in a peaceful courtyard where a very full breakfast is served in summer. (In winter there's a sociable dining room and an eco-friendly fire blazing). Your hosts are very careful to offer you as much information as you want and they will arrange car rental, restaurant reservations, tours etc. As required.Free internet on 2 computers in a library area and wireless access is available in all rooms. At night the night porter will set out complimentary sherry and port and at other times there is an honesty bar and guest fridge in the kitchen. Parking is on street and there is no charge (street guards patrol) but you should not need a car from this well placed hotel. ... more   less
