Dining options: Late Night, Breakfast, Reservations
Description: Enjoy delicate finger sandwiches filled with rare roast beef and rocket, smoked salmon, egg mayonnaise or cucumber. Follow with a delectable dark chocolate cake, lemon meringue and freshly baked scones with clotted cream and preserves. Adding a special local flavour is a typical South African milk tart, called "melktert" in Afrikaans. During the winter months you can also enjoy a selection of warm treats. Expect mushroom empanadas, tomato tarts and chicken pies. The signature Mount Nelson Tea has been expertly blended from six teas: Darjeeling, Kenya, Assam, Keemun, Yunnan, Ceylon, and rose petals from our garden. In addition, we offer an array of leaf and flowering teas. Morning, Afternoon and Evening Tea is served in the lounge, on the terrace or around the garden fountain.

The setting is truly beautiful and very tranquil. The different cakes and savory items are a real treat. The wide selection of imported teas.

“Afternoon Tea”
Reviewed January 31, 2014 via mobile

Supposed to serve a legendary afternoon tea. Well, the price is certainly legendary, but the tea was decidedly average. It looked nice, in a buffet style, but the hot items were cool and the cold ones warm. Steamed white bread sandwiches and very poor scones; heavy, sticky and cold. The pot of tea was good and the ambiance and service excellent. Pity it was so disappointing overall.

“Definitely a bucket list event!”
Reviewed January 24, 2014

I actually learned about the High Tea while staying at the hotel a couple years back (I missed it then but made sure I took the time out in December 2013 to go to high tea with a colleague. I remembered that you need to reserve a table well in advance as this is a popular activity. In short, you are treated like a king or queen for an afternoon and the teas and treats are mouth watering and delightful. It is a great way to spend an afternoon and just enjoy the atmosphere at the hotel.

“Morning tea”
Reviewed January 24, 2014

I just love tea at the mount nelson, this is by far the best tea you can get in Cape Town. I find the morning tea is the best value for money, and to be able to enjoy this from 9am till noon without feeling rushed is the best. You can try as many pots of tea as you can handle, and believe me you really do not have to be shy. The gardens are lovely to walk around after filling up on sandwiches, cakes, scones and more! Really a fantastic experience.

“Morning Tea is also great! ”
Reviewed January 22, 2014 via mobile

A friend of our's that lives in Cape Town was able to get us a reservation for morning tea at the Mount Nelson and it was just so delightful! We didn't have the big buffet spread that is part of the afternoon tea, but we were given plenty of desserts and tea sandwiches that was plenty for the five of us. Having tea at the Mount Nelson is definitely a stop you have to make!
