“Wonderful scenic place to relax or engage in more intense physical activity”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 1, 2013

This is an outstanding nature reserve and open secret known mostly to locals. There are a number of hiking trails suited to varying fitness levels, which would allow you to see interesting indigenous vegetation and birdlife. If you choose the trail up to the Elephants's Eye Cave you will be greeted with amazing panoramic views of the landscape. It also a good place to go trail biking.
There is also lovely dam to swim in during summer, around which you can picnic. You can easily pass an entire day here and the best part is that it is within the city's precincts.

“Silvermine Nature Reserve”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 19, 2012

This is one of those hidden gems of the Cape mountain chain. Used mainly by locals for hiking it is fairly rugged and should not be undertaken by someone unfamiliar with this part of the mountains.

We usually park at the designated parking and hike from Silvermine - at the top of Ou Kaapse Weg - to Kalk bay. There are some spectacular views over false bay before you make your way down the mountain and into Boyes drive overlooking the Kalk bay harbour.

Tip: Hike with a local and watch the weather
