“Excellent hospitality and service, thank you.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 20, 2013

Our experience with District Six Guesthouse is that it offers excellent value, location and good-service. Ideal for singles/couples and sportsmen. Clean, neat and very safe environment.
Located on hilltop gives good views of Harbour and City.
Able to accommodate large groups.
Ideal for groups. I rate it a 3-star on facilities but 4-5 star for service.

It was the best accomodation on my four week trip through south africa and namibia!
Faizah and her team are the best hosts you can imagine! You feel Save and comfortable and enjoy an outstanding breakfast.
If I ever travel to CT again, no question where to stay! Thanks again Faizah and best regards from Germany!

Recently, I've had the opportunity of 'covering' 'The Cape Town International Jazz Festival' on behalf of a Johannesburg based 'arts' magazine. Being in need of suitable accommodation within close proximity to the CTICC and the city centre, my wife stumbled upon, (via word of mouth), one of Cape Town's 'best kept secrets'...the DISTRICT SIX GUESTHOUSE'.
Located on Chester Rd, within the historical setting of the famous and popular District 6 area, once renowned for its anti-apartheid forced removals struggle - stands today, a guesthouse that is not only quaint and welcoming, but is also (from what I could gather), a heritage site...
I know that the cliche', 'HOME AWAY FROM HOME', is loosely used. But, to use it within the context of the 'District Six Guesthouse" is by no means a loose phrase...far from it.
From upon my late night arrival, and being welcomed and escorted to my room by a very courteous and well-mannered young man, named Adam, (how apt for the first person you meet), to the varieties of breakfasts, that were deliciously prepared by Brenda, (for whom nothing seems to be a problem), to the owner, Faizah Hendricks, and her son, Radiy, (who both, so generously and selflessly drove me to my press conferences each morning)...'District Six Guesthouse', in my opinion, felt like 'home away from home'.
To the management and staff, I say, many thanks for making my stay at your 'warm' establishment, totally and completely, a pleasurable one.
I have no doubt that my next stay in the beautiful mother city would indeed be at the 'homely, 'District Six Guesthouse'.
Congratulations on your achievement.

District Six Guest House is the perfect choice of accommodation for visitors seeking to immerse themselves in Cape culture and history, rather than staying at an impersonal commercial hotel, or locating themselves in the crowded and generic V&A Waterfront or touristy Waterkaat/Green Point areas.

The proprietor Faizah Hendricks, along with her delightful and energetic staff, have created a welcoming environment that greatly enhanced my stay in Cape Town. I felt at home as soon as I arrived. Special touches included personally cooked breakfasts, offers by the staff to help with a wide range of needs, and most importantly, Faizah’s constant attention to her guests’ experience. Faizah, who sat down to chat with me each morning as I had breakfast, helped me with a number of items – recommending restaurants that aligned with my preferences (such as “Mama Africa”, which is a great alternative to the touristy establishments), suggesting that I go to the Eastern Food Bazaar (downtown, opposite the post office, which serves genuine Cape fast food – such as “bunny chow” and various curries – rather than the generic alternatives found elsewhere), and arranging an excellent, knowledgeable guide to take me to the Cape of Good Hope.

Faizah and her family, who are proudly of Cape Malay heritage, have a long association with District Six. This area had been a vibrant multicultural community for decades, but was tragically and needlessly destroyed during the height of the Apartheid era. One can see the remnants of the neighborhood while travelling to and from the guest house. Faizah and her son Radiy shared many of their experiences living under the Apartheid system, and the District Six Museum (which usually has former residents of many different backgrounds on-site to share their stories) is close by.

The best news is that the Cape Town “MyCiti” public bus now goes directly from the downtown area and other points in the city to District Six, with a bus stop right across the street from the guest house. This provides a convenient and cost-effective alternative to taking taxis. The staff will gladly help guests obtain the MyCiti bus pass.

Being fortunate to have travelled to many places throughout the world, and having stayed at innumerable accommodations, I definitely place the District Six Guest House at the top of my list.

I stayed at District Six Guesthouse when I visited Cape Town as part of my studies. The Guesthouse is a wonderful place to stay - it becomes a home away from home! Everyone at Guesthouse Six is so helpful and nothing is too much trouble. The rooms are comfortable and the food delicious. Every time I had a question about Cape Town there was always someone to help with local advice. A wonderful, warm place to stay. Cannot recommend it highly enough.

For the past five years I have travelled with a group of between 15 and 25 students from the UK to Cape Town - each year we have stayed at the District Six Guest House. The Guest House is ideally situated near the centre of town, with lovely views of the city and Table Mountain. The bedrooms are comfortable and the breakfast excellent. Communal areas are ideal for socialising and small group meetings. But a description of the basic services provided does not capture the essence of the Guest House - the welcome is extremely warm, the staff feel like friends, and freshly baked cakes await us on the dinning room table when we return to the Guest House most afternoons. This year the windscreen on a hire car needed replacing and one of our students had to go to hospital - Faizah took care of both things, with care and speed. In short, the Guest House is a fabulous home away from home, and I would never consider staying anywhere else in Cape Town.

Very pleasant stay. Warm friendly atmosphere. Management went out of their way to assist. Food home cooked and delicious. A must stay for any traveller looking for relaxing break with home comforts. Any visitor to Cape Town will enjoy the close proximity to the city centre and the Waterfront. Easy travelling and access to any destination. Also well priced.
