I have been using Cape Fusion Tours for the past nine years on my annual vacations in the Cape. I have come to know the area very well and regard it as a home from home. You might be wondering why then am I still using a local guide each year?
The answer is really simple.
Pamela McOnie is not just a local guide, but she must be the best connected guide, and the most enthusiastic foodie in South Africa. A wine day with her tends to involve not just tastings, but drives through some of the most picturesque scenery on earth, cellars tours and sometimes even meeting wine-makers. Pam is exceptionally knowledgeable about South African food and wines.
Cape Town is not one of those places that you can turn up at the last minute and expect to dine anywhere, as we found on our first trip there - we ended up eating in our hotel most nights, as everywhere worth dining was enormously booked up. Now Pam books restaurants for us, and they will often be top flight, not-what-you-know-but-whom-you-know hard to get in to places, and on top of that she generally books us the table with the best view.
If every destination had a Pam, the world would be a more enjoyable place.
