The cathedral is a beautiful structure, however we couldn't enter to catherdral as it was a Sunday so there were services occuring. Would have loved to have explored a little more.

“Historical gem”

One of the oldest Cathedrals in South Africa, grand architecture, housing precious parts of history, beautiful stained glass windows and a peaceful place.

“tranquility in town”

you like to walk on routes dispersed with historical meaning? then do go to the st. george's cathedral! this is not very common for africa (not like in europe), and thus it is really something special to behold.

“a breath of fresh air”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 12, 2012

lovely old cathedral, walked the labarinth and enjoyed its beautiful stained glass windows especially the rose window overlooking the courtyard. Also, a lovely space among the roses to also pray for the parliament and the people of south. The labarinth is open to anybody during 9am - 5pm and every 2nd saturday of the month a talk and a walk at 2pm... A place of quiet within the busy city centre and next to the company gardens

“Can I hear an Amen please!”

I've lived in Cape Town my entire life and I’ve even worked in the city centre and yet I went for my very first visit a couple of weekends ago to St George’s cathedral... And I'm glad I did go visit!
First of all the parking... There is meant to be someone manning the gate and when we arrived there was no one in sight... After waiting and then looking for street parking (not ideal if you’re a wheelchair user) and then coming back for a 2nd look, someone was finally there, and who gave us such a hard time because we wanted to park inside... After many words she eventually opened the gate and low and behold there was a designated disabled parking bay! But be warned the parking is only open on the weekends apparently and during the week it's reserved parking...
Anyway from the parking it's easy access up a ramp and into the church. The church itself it rather beautiful, not St Paul's or anything but still beautiful! Only the level where you enter is wheelchair accessible, I didn't see any ramps up to the crypt area or any access to the labyrinth. There might be a back door somewhere but none where open on the Saturday we went to visit. There is a Bric-a-Brac Shop but it’s up 2 or 3 steps.
Overall I'm very happy to have visited St George’s cathedral in my own home town!
