Groups were far too big - 40 plus people and a big group on our bus who were so disrespectful and noisy constantly interrupting the guide. The ex prisoner who showed us around the prison struggled to manage the amount of people and some kept getting left behind which meant that the whole tour was rushed!! Would be so much better if you would wander round yourself with an audio guide

Great tour with alot of interesting stories around it! Allthough It would have been nice to have smaker groups on the tour. And also I feel ashamed for some of the tourists in my group!! PEOPLE, when the guide is talking, please be quiet! During our tour serveral of the tourists started talking when the guide was telling us about the prison! They were really loud and ignorant! I feel really bad for this. Another person even asked ”why some of the signs are in both English and Dutch”. COME ON PEOPLE PUT SOME EFFORT INTO LEARNING ABOUT THE COUNTRY YOU GO TO BEFORE YOU GO THERE!

The tour in its all was Great!

This is such an informative tour - guided by one of the men who was a political prisoner on the Island - giving a great perspective into the struggles they endured during appartide. Great tour of the Island done by bus with a commentator on board. Book ahead of time for this trip as it fills up very quickly.

Very nice well organized excursion. Nice view around the island and interesting visit of the prison. Only disappointing element is that the visit was too much on the buildings, rooms etc not enough on the life there, experience of people, their feelings. The visit is guided by a former political prisoner, his view, experience would have been much more interesting than the size of the rooms

We were due to catch the 14:00 Ferry but as this was overbooked we did not leave until 14:25. No outside just a stuffy interior. Regimented off of Ferry to Coach. Coach tour and then Prison visit, again very regimented. Interesting ex-prisoner but lacked the usual detail of happenings in such and environment. No time to visit shop as herded back onto Ferry. Good experience of going there but visit could have been made a lot more welcoming. Hence average score.

We took the first boat out as advertised at 9 am but departed 10 minutes early on vessel ‘Jester’ a good 45 minute journey to the island, there is also a hydrofoil boat available which departed 20 minutes later but arrived almost same time. On our particular visit those who got off boat first had the island tour, as we were last off boat we went straight to the prison with guide Tom Moses a former inmate who was extremely informative.... Many previous contributors have given a good outline in what to expect which in my view, several others had reservations I note, was of a high standard and actually enjoyable even if the stories were a bit gruesome to a degree....made one think of the conditions that had been experienced. The island tour was interesting with the opportunity to see penguins as well as a wonderful view to Table Mountain taking pictures to treasure, in addition a quick visit to the rock quarry.....Overall a worthwhile visit but I would recommend an early start day visit as the queues in the afternoon upon arrival back in Cape Town were rather long.

The history on this island is staggering and should be part of any visit to Cape Town. The ferry takes you across in approximately 30 minutes and from there you are transferred to buses where you are taken on a short tour of the island. During this tour, there is a guide on the bus explaining the history of the island, the political prisoners kept here, and the buildings still standing. There is also one stop where you have excellent views of Cape Town and where we saw penguins (there is a small colony here).

The most powerful part follows the bus tour where you are broken into groups and escorted through the maximum security prison by former prisoners. Our guide was Jama and he was excellent, explaining the living conditions and how people ended up being sent here for resisting apartheid. The tour concludes with a visit to the cell Nelson Mandela inhabited for 18 years. The entire experience is a powerful reminder of what he sacrificed in his pursuit of freedom, dignity, and unity for South Africa.

This is genuinely spine-tinglingly impactful - a guided tour of Robben Island and the maximum security prison where Mr Nelson Mandela was locked up for 18 years along with many other political prisoners / heroes who struggled to end Apartheid. The bus guide was knowledgeable and a great story teller, but when your guide for the prison tour spent 7 years locked up there too, you get a real first hand account of what life on the island was like. Informative, thought provoking and in many ways life affirming, make the time to visit and learn about some of South Africa’s most inspirational leaders and their fight to end Apartheid.

This was a bleak place but, like the WW2 Concentration camps, it serves as a reminder to man's inhumanity to man. A great wrong was committed on this island and we must not let such things happen again. There was a strange feeling of 'hope' and human strength permeating this trip.

The island is great.
After all, a world heritage site.

Had pessimistic experience with Get Your Guide online service.
Ordered a ticket for the ferry and a hotel pickup.
The pickup was fine.
Reached the point to take the ferry.
A staff gave me a ticket.
Waited at the point for 30 minutes.
Came to the security point, and the ticket was checked.
It says “Child”.
I double checked my order online, and it says Adult.
I cannot take the ferry.

Reported the problem to Get Your Guide, and bought a new ticket myself.

No counter measure nor even reply from Get Your Guide as it has past 10 hours.

I wasted money paying to Get Your Guide just for a morning pickup.

Terrible experience.
