Owner description: Though the beach is still popular, the elegant splendor that once graced this seaside resort community barely shows through the paved-over streets, fast-food eateries and shopping centers.

Good surfing beach, excellent dog walking beach and wonderful for kids to play and build sandcastles on the pristine sand - some interesting dune vegetation only found in this spot

Whenever I am in Cape Town I make the journey out to Muizenberg and have seen it transformed from a rather neglected, run-down coastal town for hard-core surfers to a much improved beach resort that attracts the mainstream tourists. However, it is very much 'work in progress' and certainly not beautiful.
The most notable improvement is the old cinema building and restored art deco beach front buildings. The Knead cafe is very good and just what Muizenburg needed.
However, further along the beach there is still the strange, eye-soar of the modern Information centre (or whatever goes on in there) and behind the sand dunes the preserved reserve land is spoilt by broken bottles and litter. Also you maybe a little disappointed by the famous beach huts. There are not that many of them and most look unused and in need of repair. This could be part of their charm, but there is something missing in Muizenberg to really justify a 4 or 5 rating. Perhaps the authorities should allow more beach huts to be built to cover up the sad concrete wall that stretches out along the perimeter of the beach.
Muizenberg is incredibly windy, so be prepared. The compensating factor is you can swim there (sharks warnings allowing) and it is entertaining to watch the wet-suit clad surfers.

Huge beach with rolling waves which start far out to sea. Lots of parking, a surf school and some lovely places to eat and chill. Knead being the most popular during the day
