“One of the many colonial houses”
Reviewed May 10, 2012

This is probably the nicest one to visit. After this, it won't get any better.

“beautifully constructed furniture and a hint of the past”
Reviewed May 4, 2012

initially gaining access seemed to be a bit of an issue as the building is locked to prevent just anyone walking in. The house is set up exactly as it would have been all those years ago with some informative bits and pieces scattered around. We were the only visitors there and judging by the guest book which we were encouraged to sign we had been the only visitors for a few days, which is a shame. Its not everyones cup of tea, to be honest if the weathers great why would you want to pop in here unless you desperately want to see some wonderfully and intricately made furniture, but if its raining i would give it a thumbs up.
Its just off the main street and the city tours stop is just round the corner.

“Preserved history at its best!”
Reviewed April 10, 2012

In the heart of central Cape Town CBD!!!
I loved it. The furniture pieces, the historic information presented.
Old and new together, side by side. Very interesting facts uncovered here. Religious persecution, Boer Brit friction. An eye opener for me.

“Interesting trip back into Victorian Cape Town of 1800's”
Reviewed February 2, 2012

The Koopmans de Wet House is a old Cape Dutch house in the Central Cape Town business area and has been preserved as a stunning reminder of the old colonial Cape Town in Victorian times. It is furnished in the style of the early 1800's.

There are some interesting facts on the info posters in the house. It is a bit like walking back into history and I found it very interesting. The fee was only R10 (just over a dollar!) and it is not crowded at all - allowing one time to reflect a bit.

Tip: This is just down the road from the Lutheran Church in Cape Town - aks directions and do both on the same morning.

Have some time to kill in the City Centre, pop into this building and it will take you back to a bygone era of simplicity.
