Take a seat on the whites-only bench, and you'll immediately get a feel of what it was like in South Africa before the change

We visited the Museum and had a little tour from somebody who actually experienced what District 6 went through. The museum is small, but therefore you can absorb it all and it is very admissible to read and look at. We also bought one of the story books on offer that tells the tale of District 6, written by our tour guide, very good read. It definitely made an impression!

I was really looking forward to seeing this museum and I'm sad to say that I was disappointed. It didn't give a clear picture of what happened with district 6. If we hadn't been to the Jewish Museum just before this museum I don't think I would've had that good of an understanding. It seems like an under funded museum that considering it's place in history should have a better representation.

This museum gives a very good impression of Apartheids cruelty
A more than hundred year old florishing cosmoplitan district was brutally destroyed by the bulldozers of the regime.
A big map of the quarter serves as floor of the museum ,which is filled with prooves and pictures of former inhabitants. Please take a tour with the guide, cause he is the man to tell the storie in depth!

Very impressive and creatively setup. Gives good impressions from different perspectives. Not so big so easily to do for a short visit. Always possible to intensify by reading all the individual stories. Most imprecive story is about the doves...
