“Must See in Cape Town!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 7, 2012

Our group visited the District Six Museum as part of the "Walk to Freedom Tour" we took. Our tour guide gave us an explanation of the events that occurred in District Six prior to arriving at the museum. The museum itself really helped put names and faces to the events, which really brought it home for me. Many of the people that work at the museum were former District Six residents, so they were able to share their personal stories. It was a truly moving experience. I highly recommend visiting this museum, especially if you still don't understand how apartheid impacted this country.

“Nice Presnetation”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 5, 2012

This museum gave an excellent overview of the past history of this neighborhood with the forced removal of thousands of people but also spoke about the recent efforts of revitalization. In a City that unlike Johannesburg does not have a lot of remnants of Apartheid history this is a must see on your visit to Cape Town.

“Informative and Moving”

I learned so much about the apartheid - separateness - enforcement and its impact on families and whole neighborhoods. Be sure to stop along the stairway to read about the homing pigeons that kept trying to return to their home that no longer existed.

“Small Museum”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 3, 2012

Good for a visit at the end of a Township tour or just a mid day visit. Gives an idea of what District Six looked like. And a couple of people who hang out at the museum used to live there and will talk to you if you want to ask them any questions.

“Moving story telling in a compact space”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 2, 2012

Really liked this intimate museum. A bit tricky to find but well worth it. Ex residents guide you through the harrowing and somewhat senseless tale in heart felt fashion and lots of reclaimed exhibits together with evocative photographs and set piece installations combine to make for a really diverting couple of hours.
