I like to walk through the gardens, especially when visiting the art gallery and/or museum which are right there. There is an albino squirrel running around the gardens - try to spot it!

A peaceful place - don't miss it.This garden, long in history (1652), and publicly accessible since 1848, is a wonderful place to walk, take a rest and admire the fascinating tree varieties and much else! A self guided tour brochure is available for R10 (a quality brochure) at the office/museum close to the restaurant. The latter is a nice spot, sit outside in good weather, for a snack or meal during the day (closes at 5pm I think).

Thank peacealways

The Public Gardens, as it is called today, is probably the lungs of the city. It is a lush green oasis in the city with lots of have to see places adjoining it. The Houses of Parliament, St Georges Cathedral, The Jewish Museum, South African National Art Gallery, South African Museum and Planetaruim as well as Mount Nelson Hotel are all right there, to name but a few. The gardens are neatly laid out with a section which gets locked up after sunset. So spend the dat in the gardens and get to discover a bit more about Cape Town and it's history!

Oooo the squirrels are soooooo cute! You can buy a packet of nuts at the little shop/restaurant in the gardens and feed the squirrels the whole day….if you want to. They are extremely tame and a nice way to satisfy your need for that creature comfort feeling. The gardens are neatly looked after and really worth a good long stroll.

What a surprisingly luscious space in the heart of the city! I've lived here for years but hadn't really explored all there is to offer in the gardens! A lovely place to spend an afternoon reading in the park.
