Staying at the Cullinan was quite an ubnique experience.

Rooms are well ventilated and the bathrooms very impresively big. Nice big showers and reasonable size baths. Complimentary bathrobes is supplied but nothing to put on your feet after a bath or shower.

Dinner is beyond expensive though. One can do betetr to visit one of the millions of restaurants of the property for a fraction of whwt the Cullinan charge for dinner.

Room service comes with inflated prices don't be fooled. A toasted ham and cheese sandwich may chase you well over ZAR 100 out of the pocket. A can of Coke, around ZAR 15 which is expensive.

Situated close to the Waterfront, it is a nice stroll. If you prefer, there is a shuttle service to and from the Waterfront that serve a number of Southern Sun hotels.

Room Tip: Choose rooms at rear of the hotel where it is quieter from street noises.

I've only written two reviews for Trip Advisor so far and this one will be just as glowing as the first. I guess I've either been lucky or all the research my wife does before these trips has been worthwhile.

We arrived in Cape Town off the early BA flight and went straight to the Cullinan. We were about 4 hours early for check in but after a quick chat and a cup of tea by the pool they had a room ready for us at no extra charge. The staff are very friendly and accommodating in all matters without being over the top. Breakfast is amazing, the choice is seemingly endless and there's plenty of it. On the day we left our flight was in the evening but again the Cullinan allowed us to use the room till we went to the airport at no extra cost.

If I had any criticism it would be that they didn't advertise very well that they run a shuttle bus to the V&A Waterfront or that there's a shuttle bus to Canal Walk shopping centre. These are really minor points and really the only thing I can fault them for. We'd definitely stay here again if we're ever lucky enough to get back to Cape Town but the details of that are for another review.

Hotel is situated at the gate of the Cape Town Waterfront and is very central. Good breakfast, beds are comfortable. Staff very welcoming.
They also have a shuttle service to the Waterfront even though it is within reasonable walking distance.

Either my standards have dropped or Southern Sun The Cullinan is better than it was in 2009! Certainly it is better value - R1 900 a weekday night then and R1 300 a night now (before R110 continental breakfast). I stayed one night for business - arrived late and checked out after breakfast. Checkin/out was quick and efficient. Room was good - could do without the second double bed though. Bathroom was very good, and the power shower the best I have had in a hotel. Sleep quality very good.

Breakfast at the Cullinan is superb as always. Very impressive lobby and public spaces. Free basement parking. Attentive staff - especially the porters - for example the elevator from the basement parking to the lobby was out of order and a porter was stationed at both the top and bottom of the single flight of stairs to give directions and assist with luggage.

Room Tip: One of the best things about the Cullinan is that it is perfectly situated if you arrive in Cape Town on a late flight - the highway from the airport practically takes you straight to the hotel. Ask for a Mountain facing room if you have concerned about very light traffic noise.

Stayed here for 4 nights of our South Africa holiday, and would recommend it completely.
Location ideal especially for the V & A Waterfront , and to connect to road network.
Hotel very comforatble, staff very helpful , and breakfast buffet exceptional.
Red tour bus stops just across the road - great for initial exploration of the city.

Room Tip: Some sides have sea views from upper floors, other inner facing to pool area.
