“Cannot WAIT to come back!”
Reviewed January 10, 2009

We loved every minute of our stay with the Cape Heritage Hotel. The staff were so accommodating and friendly.

Before we even arrived, Jody (she is the gem at this hotel) sent us a spreadsheet of wonderful restaurants in the area and made bookings for us based on our choices. When we arrived Jody was incredibly helpful in planning our events with us as well. But most importantly, she was always cheerful and pleasant to be with.

On the day of our arrival, there was a big party next door, nothing the hotel has control over, but they promptly gave us a room (in addition to the room we already had) down the hall where it was more quiet so that we could rest up from our trip that night! The next morning we returned to our reserved room well rested and ready to take on the day.

The breakfasts are amazing at the CH hotel. You feel well fed and in such a wonderful atmosphere. The little eating area outside the hotel is in a very small alley with grapevines above it. It's gorgeous and relaxing. Our first morning Byron (one of the owners) stopped by to have a lengthy chat with us. It was so nice of him to take the time out to give us the personalized attention and care that he did.

Every day we spent in Capetown was a wonder and the hotel made a huge difference in making us feel so welcome and comfortable there.

We had all kinds of great service from having our car brought to us, to being greeted with umbrellas outside on a rainy day, to having our laundry done immaculately, to being driven around town to have a little tour of Capetown, to the turn down service with chocolates on our pillows, to the caring details at every turn.

We can only hope to go back there and spend more time with them as soon as possible. We have yet to do a Great White Shark Dive!!

  • Liked — Jody, Byron, Zaruman and all the other excellent staff. The amazing and comfortable rooms. great interior design. Excellent service. Great breakfasts. etc. etc. etc.

I travel quite a bit and still have to say that this is one of the best hotels I ever stayed at. The staff is extremely friendly, warm, and welcoming without being overbearing or intrusive -- genuinely and without any of that fake hotel school kindness. Every single one of the few rooms in the house is done in a different style and with greatest attention to detail. Even the last door knob or light switch is carefully individually selected. High quality artwork everywhere. Very tasteful and not a trace of trackiness or stuffiness. The courtyard is very athmospheric with great food and a great scene. Highly recommended for a stay in downtown Cape Town.

Cape Heritage is the friendliest hotel we’ve ever stayed in. The staff treat you as one of the family & suggest plenty of things to do, sometimes off the usual tourist trail. Sam booked tickets for us to see an Afrikaner comic called Pieter Dirk Uys (aka Evita), who was absolutely brilliant. They also arranged tours and hire car for us, all reasonably priced and fun. Car parking is just across the road and driving is easy. The rooms are luxurious, even the standard ones. Ours had a huge, comfortable bed and beautiful bathroom with Victorian-style bath and a huge walk-in shower. It was so lovely being pampered, enjoying delicious food in the courtyard.

There are several restaurants in Heritage Square, all as friendly as the hotel. The hop-on, hop-off bus stops nearby, taking you to all the major attractions: Kirstenbosch, Table Mountain, World of Birds, beaches and the Waterfront. Explore the Winelands and, if you only do one tour, do the Cape Peninsula to see hundreds of seals and penguins.

We thoroughly enjoyed our two week holiday in Cape Town, mainly due to the care and consideration of the Cape Heritage staff. We could have stayed nearer the Waterfront or beach, but felt we had a much more South African experience staying in this little gem.

This was our 1st stop on a 2 week trip around South Africa. The Hotel was great from start to finish. Their car picked us up from the airport & delivered us in comfort to the hotel in the City Bowl. Our room was amazing, a massive bed, huge bathroom with his & her sinks, claw foot bath & separate shower, plus an added bonus of a view of Table Mountain from the window.

All the staff we encountered during our 4 night stay were great, very chatty & helpful, with good ideas about things to do & places to eat. Its felt fairly safe walking around hotel area during the day, but we didn't feel we could venture too far on foot at night. Therefore having several great restaurants just a few metres from the hotel was a real bonus.

If you are looking to stay in the city centre, I would highly recommend a stay at the Cape Heritage.

If you read the last 112 or so reviews of this hotel you'll find that only 2 people didn't really like it and the recurrent word is "Amazing"
Well, I must admit that I was just a teeny bit sceptical, but as we wanted somewhere to stay in Cape Town, I guessed that over 100 opinions couldn't all be wrong, so I Emailed Cape Heritage. Their reply was encouraging and most helpful and we eventually arrived at the airport at CapeTown at 6.15 am on a November morning and the pampering began.
A nice ride in the hotel Merc, a great welcome at the hotel, breakfast in the sunshine, and we were in our room by 8 am and unpacked by 9. We'd opted for a suite and that's what we got.......four-poster bed, chairs, desk, television, aircon, a separate sitting room with sofa, television, minibar, desk , and a big bathroom with rolltop bath, very big walk-in shower and twin hand basins.etc.
Once we had got ourselves organised, it was back to the sunshine in the courtyard for some more coffee and a long discussion about what we wanted to do and see and what the hotel staff could do to help us to make the most of our stay. They arranged for the outings that we wanted and pointed us in the direction of of other things which night interest us. Throughout our stay everyone was incredibly helpful..........we just had to ask for anything we wanted.
The building itself is part of an old complex built around a courtyard which is informally shared with Le Caveau, an excellent wine bar/restaurant with a menu which changes daily. There are other restaurants around the complex, including the award-winning Savoy Cabbage which we can thoroughly recommend.
We spent 8 nights at Cape Heritage and enjoyed every minute of. It's a short walk from lots of things like shops and the V & A Waterfront, but as we're not much into walking, a taxi could always be called if the hotel car wasn't available, and either would get us anywhere at very reasonable cost.
The whole experience lived up to the previous reviews and we are planning our return trip to Cape Town to see some of the things we missed this time.
Amazing.

The Cape Heritage in Cape Town is an absolute gem of a hotel and, in our opinion, should be one of the "leading hotels". It is featured on the Virgin Atlantic inflight Rough Guide as one of the best in Cape Town and certainly doesn't disappoint. The rooms all have individual themes, some even have four poster beds. A lot of thought has gone into guest comfort. We had a Victorian roll top bath, a 6 foot French sleigh bed and duck feather bedding. The food is first class, we enjoyed breakfast in the courtyard each morning, under the shade of the oldest vine in South Africa. All the staff work as a team and are more than pleased to serve their guests and offer advice on trips, car hire etc. There are a couple of extremely good restaurants attached to the hotel which we would thoroughly recommend. The area is very secure, Public Security Officers regularly patrol the area. The hotel also offer a pick up/drop off taxi service to the airport and around town. We definitely aim to return one day and would highly recommend anyone to the Cape Heritage Hotel.

  • Liked — The service given by everyone who worked at the Cape Heritage Hotel
  • Disliked — you needed to take a cab to the waterfront, although only around £3 each way

I stayed here four nights, one 3 night block and then a night later same week after some time in Kruger Park. The hotel is charming, is run and staffed by bright, enthusiastic people who anticipate needs and are very professional. My excess luggage was stored no problem and credit card denial problems were tackled by staff eagerly.

It is located very close to the major daily crafts market and is part of a charming, self contained historical block with an inner court yard that is quiet, has a fountain, and is available for lounging and breakfast outside. In the same "Heritage Square" complex is a great bistro, an Asian noodle shop, and a high end restaurant where we had a fine meal (Savoy Cabbage). Great Indian food is close by, too.

Parking is in a lot immediately across the street with in and out privileges, You turn out of there and very soon are on a main road that will take you to the western side of the Cape and to the access to Table Mountain.

I strongly recommend this hotel to someone looking for a classy, personalized experience. The only caveat is some noise -- from AC units on adjacent roofs and from street noise up front.
