We had a very pleasant break in Cape Town and this hotel made it even more special. Great location on the waterfront, extremely helpful staff - especially front desk (Antonio I think was his name). Definitely recommend (only downside was a lack of onsite pool).

The location of the hotel is excellent. all the sightseeing and eating facilities are available accessible. The staff is very helpful and the breakfast lay is outstanding.

However, the maintenance is terrible. The safe deposit box in the room was not functioning. It took few hours to get a replacement. The light at the entrance of the room was not working and when finally the bulb was replaced, it was not enough to provide light in the cupboard. It was fairly difficult to read the numbers on the safe deposit box. The shower door was not fully closing and despite complaint was not fixed during our 5 night stay.

Worst of all, I requested them for a ZAR 1 postage stamp to mail a letter to Johannesburg. The first response was that I should get it from a shop in the Mall. When I couldn't get it from the Mall (the Post Office was closed at that time and we were flying out of South Africa the next morning), they agreed to offer me a ZAR 1 postage stamp for ZAR 25. I have never experienced a good hotel treat a guest this way and charging a 25 times premium for a postage stamp.

Room Tip: Try to get a Mountain view room. They have a good view and are not noisy like the other side.

My sister and I arrived late on a Friday night into Cape Town to stay at the Victoria & Alfred Hotel. The room was very nice and well located at the harbor. Room was very spacious, staff was very helpful with dinner reservations and booking to Table Top mountain. The breakfast was amazing, with a selection of food that was beyond anything I have seen: champagne and oysters, variety of cereals and fruit, many types of bread, about 10 hot selections that can be added--no need for lunch, after this meal.

The location was excellent, within walking distance of shopping, many restaurants, boat trips, and the Red hop on hop off buses.

The view of the harbor and Table Top Mountain was very nice. Only downside, was noise from the partiers in the area outside on Saturday night.

Room Tip: Rooms on the side with a view of the harbor have the downside of possibly being exposed to late nigh...

Recently stayed at the Victoria & Alfred on the Waterfront in Cape Town. The hotel could not have been nicer and the staff very friendly to visitors. Our room was beautiful overlooking the water and "Table Mountain". The best feature of the hotel was the breakfast, which was included in our package. The buffet included everything you could imagine, even raw oysters. You could also order from the breakfast menu, and have anything off the buffet you desired. Even Mimosa's. Would recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Cape Town since so many restaurants and shopping are right there in the area. Very safe, you could walk to many attractions.

Room Tip: View of Table Mountain is better.

I stayed one night in late October on a business trip and found the hotel to be within easy walking distance of the Mall, restaurants and the local shops. Service in the restaurant was excellent and the choices for breakfast left little to be desired. The lobby was a little small for the size of the hotel however the staff goes out of their way to make sure your stay is enjoyable. The bedroom was well done, the bathroom was okay and there was a lot of room to put your clothes. The elevators arrived more quickly than I had expected and there was always someone standing at the entrance to assist you if needed.

I love V&A - always stay there when in Cape Town. First class accommodation -- very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable staff; large, beautifully appointed rooms; very comfortable bed; beautiful views of the waterfront and Table Mountain. Only minutes from downtown - and such a wonderful soul-enriching retreat after a busy day of business or touring or hiking. The restaurant is fabulous; and the very large mall is close and very convenient. I stayed at the V&A several times between 1999 and 2007 - always a great experience. This was my first time back in Cape Town since 2007, and I was thrilled to discover that the V&A has only gotten better over time. I will definitely stay there next time.

The only disappointment this time was that the Art & Craft market next door has really declined. It used to have really beautiful art and crafts - from high end to lower. Now it is more sparse, and I didn't see much really exquisite art like before.

I recently had a very pleasant stay at the Victoria and Alfred Hotel at the V&A Waterfront in Cape Town. I am a local of Cape Town and was attending an evening function so did not want to drive home. Although I only stayed a single night, from the time we checked in to the time we left the next morning we received great and friendly service. The rooms were well appointed and comfortable and the breakfast was fantastic. Very enjoyable and would highly recommend this as a place to stay. I wish that I could have stayed longer!
