“Can't beat the location!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 1, 2013

You really can't beat the location. Albeit a bit touristy, the V&A Waterfront is an excellent base, especially when safety is a concern. This hotel is walking distance to everywhere and the restaurant choices around are excellent. The staff is great and turndown service is good. The lobby, however, could use a little more work when it comes to design and space (i think they made way for the mall), because it could be a little crowded on check out time. The rooms have excellent view of the mountain and the beds are really good. The bathroom is a little too "minimalistic" almost looking like a hospital bathroom. The breakfast is very extensive (they have hummus!) and really good. We decided to have dinner here one night and the food is excellent as well!

We stayed here for a few days in late October. This hotel is first-class, with large clean rooms. It offers a great breakfast, which we recommend. Located on the V&A waterfront, there is an upscale shopping area meters away and is surrounded by restaurants. The waterfront area is quite trendy and touristy, but not tacky. We'd definitely stay here again.

After a week long safari spent camping in the bush veld of Kruger National Park, we concluded our African adventure with a side trip to Cape Town. The Victoria & Alfred Hotel welcomed us with open arms, cushy digs, and a gorgeous breakfast buffet every morning. We found the dinner service to be just as outstanding as the breakfast. Even though we were in town for just a short stay, and we knew a plethora of restaurants were just steps away, we happily chose the hotel restaurant for three of our dinners. Going the extra mile on the service end, V&A's front desk was able to extend our stay for a couple of nights when we had a reservation snafu. (My husband had booked the extra nights online; however, unbeknownst to him, he had reserved at Victoria & Albert in London!) Our room was on the top floor just under the eaves of the roof. We had skylights overlooking the waterfront; during the day we could open them to let the sea breeze in and at night we could see the stars of the southern hemisphere dancing in the distance.

V&A is located right in the midst of the bustling Cape Town waterfront. We found it to be very handy for walking and soaking up the city vibe and sights. The concierge was extremely helpful in sorting out side trip options - we ended up driving down the peninsula to the Cape of Good Hope and stopping for lunch at the Groot Constantia winery on the way back. On another day, we booked a group tour of the Stellenbosch and Franschhoek wine regions which included an entertaining and knowledgeable guide, an eclectic group of 10 world travelers who made the day very enjoyable, and stops at 3 vineyards along the way. On our final day, pleased as punch with our winery tour, we opted for another group tour - this time of the Townships. We were the only ones to book that day so it ended up being a private tour with our guide introducing us to his neighborhood, showing us his life, and giving us an intimate glimpse of another world.

Room Tip: The rooms on the top floor have a little more character because of the roofline which affords skylig...

stayed here for 3 nights for my birthday / post conference from Durban... Was an amazing stay! we had a rental car and arrived around 3 pm. greeted by the best Bellman ive ever encountered! he totally made the stay memorable and enjoyable. when ever we saw him during our stay on property and even at the local shops, he greeted us, shook our hand and asked if we needed anything! we booked through expedia and paid 800 for 3 nights. not bad seeing we got upgraded to a mountain loft room with breakfast. and for my birthday received a bunch of flowers and champagne! beds are VERY comfy and the service is great! we ended up staying in the hotel for dinner and ordered room service which is CHEAP!!!! although all of South Africa is cheap compared to Australia and USA. fish and chips with 4 cokes & 1 wine $25USd! the hotel is in the BEST location for the V & A waterfront. This part of cape town is totally safe for tourists. don't listen to people who haven't been in decades. Cape town Rocks. Go have a beer at one of the many bars / restaurants and relax at this best hotel in the area! FULL CREDIT to MUNEEB our bellman who made the stay PERFECT!

Room Tip: have a drink at ferrymans tavern on a saturday afternoon. the entertainment is great

Great hotel with fabulous outlook and service.
I stayed here for 3 nights and found all aspects to be very pleasing. The location is very good, in a very safe area of Cape Town (the V&A waterfront) - from the hotel it is less than 5 minute walk to many cafes, restaurants and the beautiful new shopping centre. There are lots of tourist things to do close by and I found myself sticking pretty close to hotel for everything only leaving area to go on day trips to table mountain or shark diving or on a coastal drive. Breakfast buffet is very nice with everything you might want or need and the staff are very attentive and lovely. Very secure hotel with security and butlers at every corner. Rooms are lovely and big with beautiful plush red velvet chairs to relax and look out at table mountain (if yu get a room with mountain views) and to look at the seals that laze about in the water right in front of the hotel every morning. Would definatley stay here again if I return to Cape Town, feels like 5 star.

I stayed with my daughter here, a great start to our first visit to Cape Town! we had a lovely room with a views of Table Mountain. Which were to die for. Brilliant location on the waterfront easy and safe access to bars and restaurants. Front of house staff were very helpful with advice and recommendations for shopping or food. The breakfast must be seen, and eaten, to be believed! start your holiday here!

Room Tip: Table mountain view rooms if you can
