Victoria & Alfred Hotel

Certificate of Excellence

We stayed at the V&A for 7 nights from 28 Sep to 5 October. We thought it was a perfect location, particularly for people like us who have not been to the city before. You have lots of restaurants, shops, ATMs on your doorstep, plus boat trips, trip to Robbens Island and City Tour bus all leave from there. Its very safe and so lovely to just walk out the door and be in a restaurant in 2 minutes. There is regular street entertainment which adds to the atmosphere.
The hotel itself is very nice. The rooms are quite large and very comfortable, with views of either the piazza or the mountain. Personally I was glad we did not pay the extra for the mountain view room as you have plenty of opportunities to admire the view from the breakfast terrace (fab!) and all around the Waterfront. One of our favourite memories of our trip was enjoying breakfast outside on the terrace admiring the mountain and its tablecloth!
The staff are very efficient - one night we smelled burning in our room, which turned out to be a minor problem with the a/c unit. The duty manager was up to see us within 2 minutes and we were treated to a free drink in the bar while they sorted out the smell.
There is also free parking and easy access to the motorways so you are perfectly placed for touring around.
(However, make sure you see more of Cape Town than just the Waterfront! We moved on to Camps Bay in the 2nd week.)

My partner and I stayed here for four nights in September and had a wonderful tim. I highly recommend the mountain facing rooms (well worth the extra money). The room was furnished in a style that was sophisticated but not stuffy. The staff was very friendly. The breakfast each morning was fresh and delicious. The V&A Waterfront where the hotel is situated can feel a bit like a big shopping center, but we felt very safe walking around there at night and enjoyed having a choice of so man bars and restuarants. This hotel is just a stones throw from the much hyped Cape Grace, where we went for dinner one night. We found the Cape Grace underwhelming; it was very formal and stuffy (skip the restaurant, but the bar Bascule is worth a visit.)

My new husband and I had a superb stay in this hotel. The service from the heart petals on the bed (we were on honeymoon), the complimentary champagne, to the instant room service was better than any hotel I have stayed in recently. In fact I'd say it was better than any 5 star hotel I've stayed in, especially for the price.

We had a fantastic view of table mountain (from our mountain view room..) and felt like we were right in the middle of the action of the Waterfront without being disturbed by any noise.

The in-house guide was able to arrange a personal wine tasting tour & tour of Cape point for us, at a reasonable price & with a very knowledgeable guide.

This is the perfect spot for sight-seeing, visiting Robben Island, eating at wonderful restaurants & watching the world go by over a nice glass of wine.

I must also mention the fabulous breakfasts - they have anything you could possibly want - even oysters & champagne! The buffet is like a kings spread & the cooked breakfasts were delicious. Eating breakfast in the conservatory overlooking table mountain is a memory I will keep forever.

I would go back in a flash!

I really cannot praise this hotel enough. We only had 3 days in Cape Town itself so we chose to stay close to all the action. This hotel ticked every box for us. It's perfectly located, if like us you are only there a short time, and it's easy to walk around to the various shops and restaurants etc. There is so much choice in Cape Town but in our opinions we couldnt have chosen better.

Just returned from a 6 night stay at the V&A and I can't fault the staff, service or the hotel.

Everyone was very helpful and friendly. The rooms were large, spacious and comfortable.
Excellent location right in the middle of the Waterfront - you couldn't get a better base for your trip to Cape Town.
Continental breakfast selection was very wide and the restaurant staff very good. Gorgeous views from the restaurant across the waterfront and Table Mountain - stunning.

My only quibble for the stay? The chocolates the maid left on our pillow when she turned down the bed each night weren't that great!!! Honestly that is the only fault!

Highly recommended.

Cape Town and the V&A Hotel were the first stop on our 10th anniversary vacation. And what a wonderful way to start out! Excellent location and facilities along with phenomenal service. We only ate at the restaurant for breakfast, but the food was fabulous.

We're going back to Capetown next January and we're booking at V&A

We used this hotel as the starting point for our Africa trip. Comfortable hotel on the waterfront. Rooms were large with good services including wireless internet access. Staff was pleasant and helpful. Breakfast was included in our package. Impressive cold breakfast buffet and well as hot breakfast cooked to order. Bar selections included a expansive number of South Africans wines by the glass. Would certainly stay here again
