I stayed at the Townhouse Hotel for ten days in February 2009 and was very impressed. The staff were extremely friendly, helpful and informative. The hotel was very clean, comfortable and good value too. I stayed in a room on one of the upper floors and had a sideways view of Table Mountain. The room was modern and comfortable although my only slight criticism was that the bathroom could have done with some modernisation to bring it up to the same standard as the room itself. It was perfectly adequate though. The hotel’s restaurant was very pleasant with excellent breakfasts and a good evening menu. Food and service were both great.

The hotel’s location is convenient for the city centre and various places of interest such as Long Street, the cathedral, the District Six Museum, Castle of Good Hope and Greenmarket Square. The Waterfront is only a short distance away by taxi. The reception staff booked a number of tours for us and nothing was ever too much trouble. I definitely intend to visit Cape Town again one day and will certainly stay at this hotel.

The townhouse is newly refurbished. The rooms are very new, with elegant decoration (cosmo-chic boutique hotel style). The beds are very comfortable and the furniture is very new. There is plenty of mirriors, the windors are the european style ones which block the temperature and noise. The bathroom was a bit small and seemed more out-dated than the room itself, but it did not bother me and my wife at all. The room has a safe, fridge, a/c and TV and features electrical outlets which fits European and US appliances. Breakfast buffet was delicious, with plenty of fruits, juices, wide assortment of bread/cheese and warm plates were also available (e.g.; omelete to order). We had dinner once and it was both inexpensive, service was excelent and food very good. The hotel is located at 5-10 min walking distance to the greenmarket square, Bo Kap district and within supermarket and citysighteseeeing bus stop. The only problem is that after 5pm (when most the stores close) the streets get completelly empty and there are many locals loitering and staring at tourists, making you feel unconfortable, therefore I recommend a cab after 5pm, which does not cost much for USA standards. A ride to V&A waterfront at night takes only 10 min and costs around ZAR 50 (approx 5 USD). The townhouse is definitelly a great spot for a first visit to Cape Town and it costs around 50% the price of hotels directly located at the waterfront area. It is a very good value for money especially if you can take advantage of frequent promotions in their website.

We stayed in this hotel over the new year period for 8 days in a delux double bedroom on the 7th floor .
Here's a bulleted summary of our opinion of the place
Room:
-Decor is modern and tasteful and in excellent condition
- Very comfortable bed , good size LCD TV and decent wardrobe space
-Lan ports available in rooms although no wifi (2 PCs in lobby providing free Internet)
-There is a safe in the cupboard which is great as you do not want to walk round Cape town with too much cash , jewelry and all your credit cards
- Room also had an empty fridge/mini-bar
- Decent view from 7th floor . Could see part of table mountain

Staff
-Extremely friendly and helpful
-Maids service in morning and also turn-down service in evening . They also provide a couple of homemade biscuits every night
-Good 24hr security at front door which is useful when having a ciggie in the evening (cant smoke in the lobby or bar)

Food:
-Decent enough breakfast - loved the fresh yogurt but not to keen on their eggs .
-Good quality food in restaurant and in bar downstairs. We had our new years dinner there and it came to about 500 rands for 2 of us
-Rooms service is available although we didn’t use it.

Location:
-Great city centre location right next to parliament and district 6 museum
-Long street & castle are about 10 mins walk and Waterfront about 10 min drive
-Seemed reasonably safe during day although City centre streets are fairly empty at night and I would definitely not recommend walking unless in a large group
-Car park was right next door with 7th floor access (although this cost 40 rands a day and you had to keep going to lobby to get voucher every time you wanted to leave car park)

I would definitely recommend this hotel for all first time visitors to cape town due to its central location , comfort and friendliness

We finished the two week motorbike tour of South Africa here. Room was available after 2pm, clean, modern and tidy. We were able to make use of a lockable area for some of our luggage when waiting for this to be completed. This was appreciated! Was quiet despite the location to the Carnival for New Years. The staff were very responsive and friendly, especially the porters. Made use of their early morning breakfast option as we had an early departure flight - arrived on time and necessary options still hot! Many thanks to all the staff for making this a great stay.

We booked the Townhouse after reading other favourable reviews on Tripadvisor and because we got a very reasonable rate for our 6-night stay on the hotel's website. We were a bit concerned when we arrived to see lots of refurbishment work in the hotel reception area, but this seemsed to be progressing very quickly and there was no noise or real inconvenience due to this during our stay.

Our room met our needs perfectly. We had plenty of space for our luggage, a large desk to write our postcards on and read our maps and a comfortable queen bed. We liked the unusual modern decor and were impressed by the upkeep of the room and the quality furnishings (especially the multi-coloured light above the bed). The loo was a bit strange, with a semi-transparent sliding door that didn't afford much privacy, if you get my drift.

We picked up a hire car midway during our stay, and there was absolutely no problem using the multi-story car park next to the hotel, there was even an interconnecting door on the 7th floor that made it easy to come and go. Daily parking charge was not expensive by UK standards (about R50 I think).

We loved the breakfasts in the hotel every morning, although these were not included in our rate, the price was very reasonable considering the selection available and the friendly attentive service. Look out for the Nelson Mandela pictures just outside the restaurant.

We loved Cape Town and the surrounding areas and will definitley return to the Townhouse one day.

Stayed at The Townhouse for 6 nights in July 08. Had got a really great deal via ebookers and was therefore not really expecting that much. What a nice surprise - the hotel is clean, staff are courteous and helpful, rooms are modern , the breakfast was amazing and the service exemplory. I also need to mention the shower - this was fabulous and believe me I have showered in lots of hotels and this is definitely one of the best - just what you need after a hard day's sightseeing !!
We did not have a car while in Cape Town and The Townhouse is in a great location. We tended to base ourselves at The Waterfront and a taxi was only £3.50 app.
All in all The Townhouse was a great choice and we will definitely stay here in 09 when we return to Cape Town.
