I gave this review the title Welcome to the Townhouse because that is exactly what you get. My wife and myself were in Cape Town to celebrate our silver wedding anniversary. We chose the hotel because of its central location and its website description. What we didn't know until we arrived was how friendly and helpful all the staff were. We were there for 2 weeks and left feeling like we had become part of the Townhouse family. We are planning on visiting Cape Town again and the Townhouse Hotel will definitely be the hotel we will choose to stay at.

Our second visit to Cape Town and another fine stay at the Townhouse Hotel. The location in the CBD is straightforward to get to with a map/GPS, and has parking next door in the interconnecting multi-story car park (R45 per day). We were warmly welcomed on arrival and speedily checked in. Our room (1006) was slightly smaller than before, but this was compensated by a good view of Table Mountain towering over the city.

The hotel has had some further refurbishment work completed since we last stayed there 4 years ago. In particular, the restaurant has had a very snazzy make-over. We only used it for the inclusive breakfast, but it looks great and would be well worth an evening dinner visit (were it not for the competing attentions of so many other amazing eateries in the city). Breakfast itself sets the bar for other hotels, with a wide range of excellent cold and cooked-to-order hot dishes (don't miss the totally indulgent Eggs Benedict!) all served with a smile by the very attentive staff.

Each evening we returned to the our room to find the bed turned down for the evening and fresh homemade biscuits left next to the complementary coffee-making facilities, which is a nice touch. The bed was very comfortable and we slept soundly without any disturbance (the surrounding area is extremely quiet at night and during weekends).

The only minor criticisms if I had any would be that:-

(a) the quality/quantity of toiletries provided in the bathroom has visibly been cut back since 2008, and we had to make do with very small plastic bottle of inferior shower gel, compared to the more expensive and generous lotions and potions provided in the past.

(b) getting a taxi from the hotel is a bit of a lottery. Taxi's have to be ordered by the front desk (they don't wait outside), and don't seem to be allocated to specific guests. This means that if you phone down for a taxi, *your* taxi could well be taken by someone else who happens to be waiting outsdie by the time you reach the lobby.

Would we stay again - sure, it's a classy hotel with everything you need to enjoy a break in Cape Town.

Room Tip: Higher floor rooms facing onto Corporation St have the best views of the mountains!

I stayed at Townhouse for 2 nights trying to do as much sight seeing as possible.

So the first thing that was convenient for me was the location. From Townhouse one can easily get all around the city as it is right in the center.

The hotel's rooms are very clean and I was lucky enough to have an amazing view. I was also surprised by the excellent breakfast and the politeness of the staff.

Overall I highly recommend this place!

Gem of a hotel in Cape Town city center. Walked to city highlights like the Company Garden, Greenmarket Square craft market, Museum of South Africa, District 6 museum, Slave museum, Fugard theatre. Took inexpensive cab to V&A waterfront, but walked back (in daylight, probably wouldn't walk back after dark). Hotel rooms clean and modern, comfortable bed, spacious bathroom, great breakfast included, helpful staff (called our cab, made restaurant reservations, pleasant and accomodating). We were pleasantly surprised by the excellent meal in the hotel restaurant when we were too tired to go out; both the sole and the kingklip (fish) were expertly prepared. We would stay here again.

This hotel belongs to my favorite in Cape Town with its sister hotels.. Rooms are spacious, clean and purposeful build. within walking distance to all important sightseeing points it comes highly recommendable. The food is very good and serves the best Tiramisu in town.

I really enjoyed this hotel on my three visits I made here. The rooms are modern and clean with good beds, flatscreen tv's and nice bathrooms. The rate includes breakfast which for a small charge can be brought up to your room. Location is good if you have a rental car, but a cab is required if you want to go to the V&A and other touristy sites (although I can't imagine visiting Cape Town and not having a car). Parking is available next to the hotel for a very reasonable rate. Staff is professional and friendly, I would definately come back!

Checked in very late after coming from the airport, staff were helpful... The parking arrangement confused me at first... You have to enter the adjacent garage and drive to floor M to access the hotel. I saw access on floor A but that is for the conference centre only. The hotel charges 45 rand per night for using the hotel, you just get a pass from reception to exit the parking!

My room was a single, very small and the air conditioning rattled all night but didn't seem to push out any cool air! Changed rooms the following morning, but I had to check out while this was arranged! Found myself in a similar small room but the air conditioning worked, although this one had a bit of a foisty smell coming from the bathroom!

Breakfast was a great affair, lots of choice, homemade muffins / pastries / bread... Hot food can be ordered from the menu and is cooked fresh! Loved the design of the restaurant, staff are very friendly and good service! Talking of the restaurant, the food was delicious and prepared by highly skilled chefs, found the prices very reasonable!

Anyway, the best thing about the hotel was the friendly staff and location! Room too small to swing a cat, not bad for a few nights but not recommended for a week! On the whole a very well designed, full service hotel, mainly catering for business travellers and conference delegates - but fully accessible to tourists!
