This is an older hotel with a fabulous location. It's a very short walk to all of the attractions in the Waterfront area of Capetown. The rooms are adequate albeit small by US standards. Where this hotel really shines is with the staff. All, without exception, were more than willing to be helpful and caring. If you are a visitor without a lot of experience in Capetown or South Africa, the benefit of having this level of staff concern and care should make it your choice. This will be my choice when I go back to Capetown.

Room Tip: There are some rooms on the North side with a view of Table Mountain, if it isn't covered with c...

We stayed at The Commodore for 2 nights in May 2013. Overall it is a lovely, well maintained hotel, in close walking distance from the V&A and all it's awesome attractions. The lobby and dining area's of the hotel are elegant and inviting, with excellent breakfasts served daily. The bedrooms have gorgeous views over Table Mountain and the surrounding marina. The only negative is that the room decor is very out-dated and certainly in time of a refurbish. However, having said this, all furniture, linens etc are still in good condition.

Room Tip: Choose a room on a higher level. Friends stayed a floor below us and had no view.

Really nice old type hotel, big lobby area that ends with a bar. Club-like feeling and plenty of nautical references. Very nice welcoming.

The rooms are good, not great. Good size and real bathroom. Another one of these hotels that claim to want to save water but takes away all dirty towels twice a day.....

The beds are on the hard side and the views of the Table Mountain are wonderful.

The staff is excellent, very friendly and attentive. The breakfast had all you can want.

Room Tip: 4041 has a view to dream about. Most likely the other xx41 as well.

Friendly staff in the reception and especially the bar. Nice big spacious rooms, very clean and comfy, mine had a nice, small balcony. Great arrangements for tours and transport. Very good choices in the breakfast buffet, but coffee is really bad ;) (this is so in almost all of South Africa). Could improve the service of waiters during breakfast and cleaning staff (more look into details).

Stayed at the Commodore for Business in late May 2013 for 5 nights - find it hard to complain. Great location - close to V&A and all attractions (e.g. restaurants, bars, waterfront, etc.) Staff couldn't have been friendlier or more helpful. Agree with previous reviews that the room amenities could be updated - but the breakfast buffet was very enjoyable and will certainly stay there again when I next visit Cape Town. Easily arranged a late checkout for my afternoon flight back to London and certainly had no problems or complaints. Once again, three cheers for the staff!!

Room Tip: Last visit stayed on the "street side" ( no noise problems) - but for views would recommen...

The hotel staff are extremely friendly and helpful, the room was lovely although I think outdated and old fashioned. Stayed one night and was not very impressed as check out time is 10am however at 8 am a staff member entered our room as he wanted to check the bar fridge this could have waited till we had checked out as i was still sleeping. At 9am the cleaning staff also knocked on our door but then said they would come back later, i felt very rushed and was made to feel like i had to leave my room. Went down for breakfast and was looking forward to the buffet, loved that the coffee is poured for u at the table however it was ice cold, the buffet looked well presented and a large variety of food was available, however the hot food i have never not enjoyed my breakfast and i found the hot breakfast uneatable. It was cold, tastless and even the eggs that are made to order were awful my omelette was over cooked and served to me in pieces and my partner asked for soft poached eggs she got hard poached eggs and when served to her there was water on the plate. This breakfast is R165, I would rather eat at spur for R20

The hotel has a prime location in central Cape Town near the V&A waterfront and close to good restaurants and shopping. The accommodations were comfortable, our room had an excellant view of Table Mountain. The breakfast offered in the lobby is typical European style, and is worth the money. The staff were helpful, and were willing to assist in any mannor possible.

Room Tip: Ask for a view of Table Mountain.
