The one advantage of this hotel is its location. It is very close to the promenade and you even get a good view of the ocean right from your room. We were part of a tour group and of the three nights that we spent there, the AC was not working the first two nights and the only solution was to keep the windows open. Luckily, the weather was not too bad at the time we were there.
The food was okay with a fairly good spread for breakfast buffet. We had dinner on the first night there, which was just average.
The hotel needs some really good upkeep. I will definitely be looking for a better hotel, if I have to visit Capetown again.

Room Tip: Ask for a sea facing room

Service was bad, food was very bad. rooms were not clean and have this weird smell. the only good thing was the view and the fact that the hotel was right in the downtown area. so location was convenient. and the rates were not bed. i guess it is ok for budget travelers.

I suppose you can have a very pleasant stay at this hotel , but we visited during week of end September . Schoolholiday and various groups were checked in like , Schoolchildren , Church and a political group . There was no supervision for the kids and if there was , non existent , so it was a disaster . Noisy , lifts was "played" with , so not available , dining room , disaster .

Room Tip: I suggest you check for group bookings before visiting this hotel .

I got into this hotel trusting an employee of The Reef Hotel in Jo'burg. Booked the hotel for 5 nights and the receptionist insisted on paying the full amount in advance which I paid under verbal condition that they have to reimburse me the money if I feel uncomfortable with room. Changed room twice for one or other reason. Finally got a room in which a/c was working but was very loud. It was hard to sleep with noisy air-con and harder to sleep without it...

Room: big enough but not comfortable at all. coffee maker was there but rusted and couldn't hook to power. Big glass windows but dirty. TV was there but limited channels n partly not working.

Breakfast: not tempting at all. Even coffee was luke warm. I had only fruit n rushed out. It looks like a factory canteen! Staff looks very tired.

The best thing I could do was check out..... I think it does say everything!

Room Tip: Choose a room but in other hotel!

I love the way my day begins at the Ritz. Fantastic breakfast with superb waiter so eager to please. I enjoyed 8 nights of good breakfast. the spread was good too. Rooms were spacious for a family of 4 and they come with very nice view overlooking the bay and the ocean and the mountains. Several convenience stores, supermarket and restaurants and fast food outlets at footstep. The one thing you should not miss is dining at the revolving restaurant at the top of the hotel. The food( signature dishes) were very nice and the view really good. Please remember to make reservations.... they can be full. restaurant is also reasonably priced. About $100 for dinner for 2. I had 2 dinners there. Took several pictures and My wife and kids loved it very much. the only setback is the lift. Only 2 slow lifts for the hotel and restaurant. there was a need to queue for the lifts. The travel desk at the hotel did all the travel arrangements for me and they did it at very reasonable price and were very polite and courteous..importantly patient with my kids. We also took the city bus tour for 3 days (cheap(reasonably priced and bus stops 2 blocks away) to tour around cape town and drop us at attractions)

We enjoyed cape town very much.. very beautiful place. And if you ate reading my review, you have mad a god choice to visit Cape Town.

Room Tip: Ask for high floors ...they have very good view and try dining at the revolving restaurant you will...

Lovely relaxing stay in Cape Town Ritz Hotel. Unusual location near the beautiful ocean with a stunning view of the montain lion head. The revolving restaurant on the top of the skyscreaper offer fantastic South African food and international food. We enjoied the fantastic sea food West
lobster at Waterfront Panama Jacks restaurant. Very near to the wine district and all other excursion. Cape Town is our favorite city. We have checked in there three times (when it is Winter in Sweden). We are planning to go there again in January for four weeks (we are retired). South Africa with the fantastic beutiful coast and the nice climate for us is a paradise.............
We traveled Stockholm-London-Cape Town 2010 - 2011.

Room Tip: De luxe rooms and corner rooms
