We spent seven nights in this small, quite basic hotel, which is near to the Parliament and the police station and so its surrounding area, although a little rundown, is pretty safe but the streets outside can be a bit noisy. The room was small but comfortable and clean with a bath and shower. There is a computer in the lobby for customers' use and reasonably fast wifi throughout the hotel.
We visited the Company's Gardens, District Six Museum, St George's Cathedral, the Slave Lodge & Bo Kaap Museum - all within easy walking distance of the hotel. The markets at the Parade and the Greenmarket are worth visiting too, especially on a Saturday morning. The V&A Waterfront was a good 20 minutes walk away. The nearest tourist bus stop isn't so far away. We hopped on and hopped off at various places, including Table Mountain on a beautiful sunny day. Hotel staff booked us a great value for money half-day tour down to the Cape of Good Hope.
The hotel's breakfast included cereals, fruits, cheese & cooked meats and sausage, bacon and egg - enough to fill anyone! In the evening we ate cheaply at the Eastern Food Bazaar or, a bit more expensively at the restaurants in or near the Greenmarket area. But the best value for money was the restaurant attached to the hotel. The Cousins provides large servings of Italian food - fresh pasta & lovely side salads. Simone and Andreas also work the hotel's breakfast shift.
Antonio, the manager, is justifiably proud of The Parliament and its 5 star staff - Farai, Dominic, Freda, Kay & Shamima - plus the housekeeping staff. Many thanks. We hope to return.
