The reception staff were brilliant, joking with us - sometimes wonderfully inappropriately - making our stay feel really welcoming. The room we booked was very pleasant, with adjoining sitting area and roll-top bath, but on reflection, I think I would have preferred an elevated room with roof-top terrace. Breakfast is served when you provide vouchers - a little peculiar, but no major problem. Breakfast was very good, with a range of choices; service was always very friendly. The location is great for the gay bars, but Cape Town is not quite the gay party city I expected: only at the weekend is there much buzz; weekday nights are quiet. In a sense, the location, although very pretty, is sort of between places, whether the busy but a little soulless V&A Waterfront, or the edgier Long Street.

Room Tip: If you're going to spend the money for a larger room, then book one with a terrace.

I loved this place. It was much, much more than I expected, with a very comfortable bed, nice sitting room, lovely setting. Friendly staff. Right in the heart of gay Cape Town. Easy walking distance from downtown attractions and from the V&A Waterfront -- a must in Cape Town!

Room Tip: Don't buy the included breakfast; easier and same price to go to the Café on the corner.

Excellent place to stay. Staff very efficient and friendly. Room was clean and well maintained. Have recommended the hotel to my friends. The only (slight) negative was obtaining parking. We definately would return!

I have stayed at De Waterkant Village on many occasions and not once, have I been disappointed. As always, my apartment was ready when I arrived, it was spotlessly clean, and very well equipped. Staff members are friendly and always willing to assist. I shall return.

The self-catering apartment where we stayed was well decorated and a great space to relax. Walking distance from all nightlife and shopping area. I wonderful weekend break - From a friendly reception (even that this was late at night), the cleaning staff and the place itself - The Village understands service. This is not the first time that we used them for accommodation in De Waterkant, and again they did a splendid job.

Perfect in every respect. I like clean places and De Waterkant House is super clean, I would say spotless. Rooms make you feel like you are at home, they have a swimming pool and a working fire place. All major points of the city are 10 minutes by a taxi. My room, Napier, had a view of the Table Mountain.
They have a cafe, that you get vouchers for, and breakfast is to die for, I highly recommend poached eggs with Cape Malay mince or Salmon Salad. Then you can have your espresso while contemplating a sunrise over the harbor or looking at the slopes of the table mountain.
The hosts at Waterkant village know everything and upon request will book a tour for you. They also have a deal with a taxi company for an airport transfer which will save you money.

Dear Albert K

Thank you very much for your lovely review, we do strive to create a home away from home to all our guests.

The Village Café is a definitely a service that we are proud to be affiliated with. On your next visit you should try some of their amazing lunches and remember should you miss breakfast you can also use your voucher towards lunch.

Kind Regards

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in DeWaterkant Guest House - just a couple of things to note - it was a work trip so it was a bit frustrating that you couldn't get very good Internet access in the rooms. The check-in time of 2pm was quite late because we need to shower and rush off to meetings. However, the place is lovely and the rooms are very well maintained and the lounge and plunge pool area were gorgeous for our evening debriefs.

Room Tip: The travellers rooms are very good value and DeWaterkant Guest House was lovely - the rooms downstai...

Dear Sian M

Thank you very much for your review. Due to the poor reception in the area we are looking at alternative options to improve the quality and speed of the signal. Alternatively we do have complimentary wifi in reception for all of our in house guests.

Our check out time is 11:00 and check in time 14:00. We do encourage our guests to request any early check in or late departure on making their reservation in order for us to accommodate where possible.

We are pleased that you enjoyed your stay and hope to see you again in the near future.

Kind Regards
Chantel Wessels

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Colourful De Waterkant Village is a unique European influenced village of semi-detached quaint cottages and cobbled streets preserved from the 1760’s. Cradled between the city and the V&A Waterfront, De Waterkant Village is avant-garde, a cultural urban refuge highlighted by the abundance of restaurants, art galleries, clubs, salsa clubs, tapas bars and Parisian inspired café’s. Drawing comparisons from cultural and artistic villages from all over the world, De Waterkant embraces individuality and theatricality, echoed in the architecture and vibrancy of its residents and visitors. Walking on the beautiful sidewalks, one cannot help but be caught up in its spell, cast by the beauty of the Dutch influenced architecture, with flower boxes under the windows, sprawling balconies and rooftop decks providing exquisite views and majestic old trees that line the streets, filtering the sun selectively through their branches. This is a place that will tempt you into its fold and dare you to indulge and delight in life’s finer pleasures. ... more   less
