“First class stay”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 29, 2013

My wife and I stayed for 3 nights in March. This was our 5th stay in Cape Town, and our first stay at the Westin. It is a first class hotel, with first class facilities. We ate at their restaurant Louis B's and found the food was very good and inexpensive, however we did have an issue with one of the waitresses on our last day who decided to re-lay the table whilst we were still finishing our drinks, which was a bit bizarre! It would also have been nice to have been asked as to whether we were enjoying our meal. maybe it was a training issue. Other than that we found the staff to be efficient and friendly. There is also an efficient hotel shuttle service although the hotel is within walking distance of the waterfront. We would definitely stay again.

2nd time to stay here and didn't disappoint. Apart from lovely large bed my room overlooked gorgeous Table Mountain. Only complaint? No curtains to block early morning sun, if you call that a complaint! Otherwise the most amazing breakfast of all the hotels I stay in globally (work, not pleasure sadly). The service exquisite. Weather fab. Room service amazing. 10/10 :)

Stayed 8 nights with my wife, our first visit to Cape Town.Made to feel very welcome and kept safe by the hotels attentive staff.Room ready although we arrived before mid-day after an overnight flight.Executive Club room well worth the small additional cost, views from the 19 floor breakfast/dinning room outstanding. The LAP pool on the 19 floor small but under used so able to enjoy extended swim .Hotel shuttle to the waterfront a boon ,all drivers very helpful. Really enjoyed our stay ,will return. Thank you.

Decent location near the marina. Excellent service, and we also got access to the lounge for breakfast for free with my gold status. Lastly, they let us add a third person to our room with a roll away with no charge.

Just finished a stay at this property - overall, amazing.

I arrived early - So early, I expected to be greeted then welcomed to return later in the day for my room. Instead, I was given a standard room on the Executive Club level (SPG Gold). As a low-level Gold, these upgrades are rarely expected, and checking in as early as I did, astonishing.

The location is great if you have business at the convention center. Visting for pleasure? You will learn to enjoy the hotel food, drive somewhere or take the safe and reliable hotel shuttle to the watrerfront. Not a lot of (or any?) food options nearby.

Some things that stood out for me:
1. I asked for a beach towel, they provided it in a Westin bag with 2 bottles of water
2. I inquired about the yummy Turkish delights provided during (a very well-done) turndown service. They told me where I could buy them, then sent a small bag of them to my room at no charge.
3. I asked for directions to the train station. The woman walked outside with me to the edge of the hotel then provided detailed instructions and a map.
4. For laundry service I wrote a note asking for my shirts to be folded as if putting them in my suitcase for travel. They individually plastic wrapped all of my clothes, then placed them in a Westin-branded box for easy placement in my luggage. Wow...
5. The breakfast was also, wow. I dined both at the Executive club and the regular downstairs restaurant. Both served a wide variety of hot and cold dishes. In the lounge we had sushi and fresh oyster options (yes, breakfast!), homemade granola with all the fixins, sliced fruits galore, and multiple dishes of fresh pastries. I am a foodie! I looked forward to breakfast each day, that is how good it was.

In terms of safety, I learned only after the fact our partners do not allow stays at this hotel due to big problems with theft in the past. I don't recall the in-room safe large enough to fit my laptop (so, a word of caution to those staying), but it did fit everything else. Didn't experience any theft issues during my stay.

The room was very comfortable. No noise from adjacent rooms or outside. Beautiful view of Table mountain and Southern Sun Hotel. Standard and always enjoyable Westin Heavenly Bed. Room had an espresso machine and fully stocked bar. Bathroom had a high pressure shower, seperate and oversized tub, standard Westin bath products. No bath bubbles (is this no longer standard?). There is a slacks press in the room as well as iron and board. At the desk, there lacked sufficient power ports. I was unable to use any device without first unplugging the phone. I've seen other properties bring additional power ports (including standard international ones) to the desk area, anticipating business travelers have phone(s), computers and other items that may need concurrent charging.

Fitness center is available 24 hours a day, spa area until 10 or so. The gym has a good free-weight set a handful of modern muscle resistence machines, and some new cardio machines.

Overall, this was a really pleasant stay. Staff were friendly from check in until check out, and really went the extra mile to may it an enjoyable stay. There were just a couple areas (noted above) where the stay could have been perfect.

Note: As of this writing there is a DOUBLE SPG point promo going on at this property (property specific). Check promotions on the Starwood sitre for more info.

Perfect for the convention centre (literally across the road) it's also fine as a tourist hotel. A shuttle bus goes to and from the famous Waterfront every 30 mins.
The rooms have spectacular views of the waterfront and the mountains.
Very good breakfast buffet, small but stunning indoor pool, also with amazing views.
We were upgraded to an exec room, with use of the exec club, which was a real treat. A huge room, very well appointed.
And all the staff were extremely helpful and on-the-ball.

Room Tip: The Executive rooms are well worth it, for use of the 19th floor Club for breakfast and free wine an...

AMAZING experience. Direct connection to the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC) by enclosed bridge on Mezzanine Level. Various top quality restaurants. Outstanding breakfast with wide variety, including sushi and exotic / uniquely mixed juices on offer. Very close proximity to V&A Waterfront, with free shuttle service every 30min. Hop On-Hop Off canal cruise outside main door. Within walking proximity to venues in Cape Town city center. Free Wifi. Breakfast on the 19th floor at the Westin Executive Club Lounge is HIGHLY suggested - great views of city and table mountain, as well as harbour and waterfront in other direction. Great spa packages. King size bed, trouser press, and Espresso machine in room, with mini office (chairs, desk, phones, printer/copy/fax). Stunning views from room. WE WILL BE BACK!
