“Our experience was great”
Reviewed March 11, 2013 via mobile

We arrived early in the morning due to an international flight. From the moment we climbed out of a taxi, every employee we met was friendly and helpful. Kim at the front desk was excellent. Travel desk and concierge extremely helpful in planning our time. Maids very helpful. Dining room staff excellent.

The hotel is contemporary and clean with a great location. Rooms are spacious and well organized. We enjoyed the evening turndown service. Only complaint, no magnifying mirror in the bathroom.

The food and service was excellent....great breakfast buffet with lots of choices, including cappuccino.

Complimentary wifi was a plus. More hotels should offer it.

As a courtesy, We are surprised the hotel manager doesn't reply to complaints on TripAdvisor as most hotels do. It's the personal touch that makes a difference and we are 40 million members worldwide.

I accompanied my wife who was attending a conference and chose to stay in the hotel for two nights before the start of the conference.
Our welcome at reception was somewhat less than warm or even courteous. Our room was situated at a relatively low level with an expansive view of the silver roof of the conference centre opposite the hotel off which the sun was blindingly reflected. The room was adequate however the bathroom was large with an excellent walk in shower . . . . and underfoot heating. Rather wasted in the 37 degree heat but note worthy!
The free WiFi was almost impossible to access and calls to reception seemed to elicit a different "log in" code each time. There was only one small carton of milk which meant that I was obliged to drink my ONE cup of tea black.
The public rooms are typical of a large modern hotel but the only outside area to sit and drink was situated below a a raised dual carriage way and surrounded by a "moat" filled with dirty scum covered water. Frankly appalling.
Wy wife and I have stayed in Cape Town on a number of occasions in the last ten years. We have stayed in the Mount Nelson, the Victoria and Alfred and the Table Bay all of which are fine hotels which offer first class service and are not located on what can only be described as a traffic island. The Westin does offer a shuttle bus to the Waterfront but even this had an unreliable timetable which left us standing in the street for an uncomfortably long period of time. However the valet parking I found to be very efficient and the staff friendly and obliging.

In conclusion whilst this hotel may be well located for the conference centre and the business district it is most certainly not as far as tourists are concerned. At circa 5000 rand per night it is also very poor value for money. PS Who thought that Westin was an attractive name for a hotel?

Dear clive h

Thank you for your feedback and taking the time to post your comments.

I reviewed your comments regarding your stay with us at the Westin Cape Town. We do take all comments seriously and appreciate all the feedback we can get. I do apologize for not living up to you expectations, in that you found the view from your room not what you expected.

I can understand your feelings regarding your room allocation. Whilst we do try and accommodate our guests on higher floors, it is sometimes not possible to guarantee rooms. We do apologize for the dissapointment on this occasion.

Our Shuttle bus operates every half our from the hotel and in return from the V&A Waterfront. this service is complimentary.

As you rightfully pointed out we are conveniently situated next to the Cape Town Convention Centre, which straetgically positions us as a business hotel, however we also cater for leisure guests during school holidays.

Thank you again for your comments and we do hope to welcome you again when next your travels take you to Cape Town.

Good news: beautiful modern hotel with a good location, super views, and free transportation over to the V&A Waterfront.
Bad news: the maid came by at 11 PM for turn-down service: WAY too late. The TV didn't work correctly, and there was no do-not-disturb sign available. When I asked the front desk about these issues, I was told "the maids are not really our staff - they are contract workers." No excuse.
Overall a good but not perfect property.

Large room, good bathroom, Starwood beds. A high rise business hotel (next to Convention Center), but it worked out well for us--tourists about to board a cruise ship. Especially since a dental emergency came up, and the staff got us a short-notice Saturday appt. with a competent dentist.

Our company partipated in a conference at the beginning of December 2012. We were booked into the Westin which is literally a hop skip and jump away from the Cape Town International Conference Centre. The hotel went the extra mile to ensure our group was attended to (early check in etc) and the rooms were so close, we didnt have to worry abotu sitting in traffic every day.

The spa was excellent with magnificent views of the harbour.

The hotel had an excellent juice bar at breakfast which brought out the health enthusiast in all of us! Further the sushi bar (which the juice counter moonlighted at night!) was some of the best sushi i have had in cape town.

The hotel was also good enough for Lady Gaga's entourage! And we scored ourselves complimentary tickets to her sold out affair in Cape Town! Made the whole stay even more memorable!

Further, Princess Caroline of Monaco also stayed at the hotel at the time! Fit for Royalty!

It has a shuttle running on the half hour to the waterfront till a decent time in the evening so we were able to save on transport costs to see some of the sights! What you spend on the quality of the hotel, you gain back on savings like these! A must stay for the business and holiday maker alike

Room Tip: Request Rooms above the 4 floor otherwise you will be look onto the conference roof!

Nice facility close to downtown. Great indoor spa/pool/jacuzzi/steam room/sauna for guest use. Sadly, Starwood Hotels no longer allow children under 12 to swim at their facilities due to some event at one of their hotels, but they do allow pool use at the Sun Hotel across the street (very nice outdoor facility). The massages were top rate. The breakfast buffet is extensive and absolutely wonderful. We found room and restaurant service to be very good. Rooms are rather unimaginative, modernist furnishings. Baths were w/heated tile floors which was a very nice touch. Turn down service was also nice. Great frequent shuttle to V&A Waterfront area and Citysightseeing Bus Stop just at corner. Close walking distance to Long Street/Greenmarket Square/Pan African Market. Concierge was very helpful. The only problem we had was that we had been staying 10 days and paid our bill up front, a substantial amount of money. The last two days we seem to have incurred ~$250 USD in bills via spa and restaurants. They left numerous messages that we had to come current despite my husband's having arranged that we would pay when we checked out. It was a bit annoying considering the huge amount we had already invested in the stay, that they seemed to think we were not going to pay the rest perhaps.

Room Tip: Ask for a higher floor, western water view.

Check in was painfully slow although the person behind the desk was trying to be helpful and friendly.

Room was nice and large and well equipped with espresso machine (but no milk) and minibar. Bed was horribly uncomfortable so sleep was difficult. It was too soft and was worn out.

Internet was free but was a pain because the standard room number and last name login didn't work, so I had to get a voucher. Vouchers sometimes work and sometimes don't and required re-login every time a device went to sleep or screensaver.

The club lounge has no value. Ladies at the desk were not friendly nor helpful and were always ready to tell everyone they sat in the wrong place. Service in the lounge was slow when you could find a server. Unlike most hotel lounges, nothing here is self service and there is not coffee and snacks available. Was amazed when presented with a bill for evening drinks.

The gym is good. All brand new techno gym equipment with 3 treadmills, 3 ellipticals, 3 bikes, and weight machines as well as dumbells. It's open 24 hours.

Location is very convenient to CTiCC.

Breakfast was good. Didn't try other meals.

I'm sure there is better in Capetown, but this place was safe and clean despite a few bad items.
