This hotel seems to be more catered to the short term business traveler as opposed to a family holiday location. The room was clean and modern, but the daily free internet was capped so you were forced to buy a wifi package at R100 for five days.

The front desk staff were inattentive to our needs and always appeared to be overwhelmed and stressed. I felt like they wanted to have nothing to do with me. The hotel lacked a concierge so no advice was given on safe taxis to use.

On a plus side the breakfast was great and so was the staff. In all I would not stay at this hotel and not recommend it.

We started our So. Africa tour with 4 nights here and found everything first rate. Our daily buffet breakfast was also excellent. We were able to walk to the waterfront in less than 10 minutes. A very good location and a comfortable room.

Stayed for 3 nights as part of our Travelsphere tour of South Africa. The hotel has been fairly recently refurbished (2011) and our room # 112 was spacious and in good condition. The room overlooked the main road but it wasn't particularly noisy in our opinion. We didn't use the restaurant in the evening but the breakfast was good with plenty of variety. The cappuccinos made by Tony in the bar were some of the best I have ever tasted.
A 5 minute,50 rand taxi drive away gets you to the waterfront; it is not a good idea to walk this particularly when dark.
You might like to try the Beluga restaurant just round the corner - superb!
In summary,a good quality hotel to start our tour.

We booked this hotel for a New Years Eve stay, received confirmation from booking.com in September and a further confirmation from Protea Hotels on 24 December.

Upon check in we were advised that the booking had been cancelled as the required payment had not been received, despite being informed to the contrary that the payment was due upon check in, and in the event of non arrival or cancellation the full amount would be debited to the credit card details provided. The lady who attended to our check in had to request the assistance of her superior, who was dismissive in his attitude.

The air conditioning unit in the room was dysfunctional.

Following the New Years eve activities, we returned to the hotel in the early hours of the morning, and the security requested our room identification. He then checked the hotel system which indicated that only 1 person was allowed occupation, and as such either my spouse or I would be disallowed access to the room. We requested the intervention of the duty manager, who then corrected the security personnel's error!

This is not a cheap establishment and at R 2, 800 for the night (excl. breakfast), Protea Hotels should up their game plan and provide a qualified "four star" service that guests are paying for!

Is this hotel nice? Sure... for $200 USD/night?! NO WAY! The WiFi didn't work in the room, and when we brought it up to the front desk, they attempted to remedy the situation with a login that didn't work (someone else was up front complaining that they're internet didn't work either). Quite honestly, I'm not even sure what we were supposed to do with the login info... seemed like an attempt to just shew us away. The cleaning staff didn't replace our towels, nor the body wash in the shower, and when we asked for these things, a maid came to our room as if she was doing us a favor - terrible attitude. Also, the breakfast is ridiculously expensive ($16 USD/person), and we didn't find out that it wasn't complimentary until after the fact. The location is good as a jump-off point to see Cape Town, but I would highly suggest one stay elsewhere. This place is okay, but relatively speaking - terrible (look at my reviews - I never give 2 stars)!

I stayed here on business and was definitely happy. The room was a good size - great night sleep and lovely shower although it didn't quite get hot enough which wasn't so bad as it was warm(ish). Room service was super fast and the quality of the food was of a high level. You can also order spa treatment in room at a very reasonable price. Its walking distance (about 10mins) from the V&A waterfront which is lovely for picking up tours buses and generally having a look around at the food/trade markets as well as the shopping centre. I would 100% return.

It's a well-kept, nice hotel that's well-located, although it could be a little closer to the V&A Waterfront. But the price reflects the slight distance. Service was nice and the breakfast buffet was great. WiFi signal could have been a bit stronger.
