We stayed at the Protea Hotel Victoria Junction on our trip to ride the Argus Cycle Challenge in Cape Town. The staff was great in assisting us with our bike storage and we each got an energy goodie bag with snacks in for the race. The hotel is perfectly situated: Walking distance to the start and finish and also to the race expo. The hotel has complementary shuttles to and from the V&A Waterfront, but it took us only about 10 minutes to walk there. The chef catered for the riders with a high carb (pasta) dinner the night before the race at a very reasonable rate. The interior is original and really a feast for the eye. The staff is friendly and knowledgable about the surrounding attractions. Lots of very good restaurants all round the hotel. The cuppachino at the hotel bar is delicious.

Dear Nix40
Thank you for taking the time to write a review of your stay at Protea Hotel Victoria Junction Waterfront.

We strive to ensure that each and every GUESTS’ expectations are not only met but exceeded as well. As you can imagine due to our location central to the V&A Waterfront and Cape Argus Cycle race, we are fairly busy during this time and the Chef needs to ensure that each and every GUESTS’ needs are met. It is a daunting task and brings great joy when GUESTS’ such as yourself notice them.

GUEST feedback is imperative for us to ensure that we are meeting and exceeding our GUESTS’ expectations.

Your comments are therefore much appreciated, and we hope to have the privilege of welcoming you to Protea Hotel Victoria Junction Waterfront again soon.

Kind Regards
Charl and the VJ TEAM

Top marks to Ashleigh - the lady at the check-in desk who accomodated us with a really nice room. We were 2 people with bike boxes, in town for the Argus race. Thanks Ashleigh!!!

Great hotel, warm helpful staff at check-in, bar, restaurant etc... keep up the great service.

Nice pool (small) and gym...

10 min walk to V&A

Excellent food and spa at The Foundry complex, 2 mins from hotel.

Would be v happy to return.

Room Tip: Ask for one of the loft rooms!

stayed here for 3 nights in early march 2013. The staff are friendly and efficient. i would sum it up as a typical town centre hotel. its close to V & A (R50 in a taxi ) although there is a free service 3 times a night from the hotel. our room was clean and well decorated. i didnt like the class walls in the bathroom, i prefer to leave the bathroom light on during the night, strange place, tripping over cases etc..but this was not possible as the whole room became illuminated.
there is a good bar and the prices are agreable. the food was suprisingly good and well presented. all in all an enjoyable stay.
by the way, the pool is a bit of a distance from the lobby and it is absolutely freezing!!

Room Tip: choose a room down the side onto ebenezer road. somerset is noisey loads of boy racers and harleys.

The hotel underwent an extensive reservation in 2011, but was opened in 1996. We especially kept some of the features that we believe make the VJ unique during the renovation. The pool facing rooms of the hotel are quieter and we will be looking at improving the sound insulation in the road facing rooms.
We once again thank you for your feedback and hope to welcome you back to the Protea Hotel Victoria Junction Waterfront again in the near future.

Stayed there for business. All my other favorite hotels were fully booked.
On the positive side it is close to Victoria & Albert waterfront. Rooms are ok but a refresher wouldn't hurt.

On the downside : cleanliness, noise, ac engine is inside the room, windows do not open, little wardrobe space.

Friendly staff most of the time helps compensate for the basic package that you get at this address.

Room Tip: Avoid rooms on the main road. Road racing takes place at night and is noisy and scary.

I had a late flight (arriving from Kenya) and arranged the shuttle pick-up by the hotel. It was very efficient, in a very modern car that wisk me to the hotel. The shuttle is also provided to go to V&A (3 times in the evening for free) and any time charged, and other locations - very convinient.

V&A is a very short taxi ride way, however not within walking distance, especially at night. Most of the sights required taking a taxi or shuttle: V&A, Botanical Gardens, etc. While (during the day) walking around hotel looks safe - not many reasons to do so.

The breakfast was of very good quality with a lot of choices for both meat eaters as well as vegeterians. The service (room services), shuttle/taxi, as well as cleaning services are excellent.

Overall we were very happy with the hotel (we stayed over New Years) especially considering the great HotWire rate.

We will be sure to pass on all your positive feedback to the hotel STAFF as well as the transfer company, Tusk. You are right in saying it is safe to walk during the day and when the weather plays along, there is nothing better than walking the Fan Walk down to the Greenpoint Park or V&A Waterfront. Please keep an eye on our website, where I am sure you will be able to find another great deal.
