We were lucky enough to sneak in to Parker Cottage at quite late notice for 6 nights over New Year because they had a cancellation and I'm so glad we did.

Phil, Liz, Lexi, Chris and all the team can't do enough to make your stay special. Even with a late check in the welcome is special with your name on a board as you enter and a tray of eats and wine in your room!

As mentioned in other reviews, the breakfasts are amazing and I feel we disappointed Phil a little with our reluctance to eat 5 courses every day! Maybe next time...

Our rooms were excellent, with comfy beds and lovely bathrooms. We had the two rooms upstairs which was perfect for our group of 4.

As so many people have said, nothing is too much trouble - Phil booked us tickets & tours and recommended restaurants for us. The day long wine tour was particularly awesome - thanks Raymond!

I'm sure we'll be back in Cape Town before too long, and we'll definitely stay here again!

Our stay at Parker Cottage was in two parts, punctuated by 3 weeks in the South Atlantic. On our first arrival in Cape Town, following a long flight from London via Jo'burg, we were met by Chris, arranged by Phil and Liz, at the airport. The drive into town was more of a sight seeing tour than an airport transfer.
On arrival at Parker Cottage during mid afternoon, Phil wasted no time in thrusting a beer into our hands and finding out what we intended to do with our time in the Cape. Both Phil and Liz, and all of their staff, made themselves available from early morning until late evening; arranging everything from taxis, tables at excellent restaurants to organising hire cars and excursions. This is not to say that Parker Cottage can be likened to a package holiday; everyone will allow you to sit quietly in the peaceful surrounds or go about your own business. However, when you arrive in a city for the first time with limited time to get to know it, Phil and Liz provide the 'crutch' to make your stay memorable.
The rooms are fantastic, the breakfasts unforgetable and the service is nothing that we've experienced anywhere else on the planet. Thank you Parker Cottage!

Room Tip: We stayed in 2 rooms. Rooms away from the entrance porch are less noisey, although the sleep quality...

After a semester abroad in Cape Town, my daughter and I met at this wonderful B&B as a reunion of sorts. It was the perfect setting for us to feel at home and pampered. Our room was cozy and comfortable and the atmosphere of the entire setting was ideal. The B&B is located in the perfect spot to explore the city and the surrounding areas. Phil and Lexi were quick to provide us with recommended outings with cabs and day trips scheduled promptly and hassle free. Phil made us feel that our trip enjoyment was his main concern. We quickly realized the high-light of the fabulous breakfasts, served on the porch, and we looked forward to the "special of the day." Babs and Thandeka were warm and friendly and added to the warmth and charm of the entire experience. We highly recommend Parker Cottage. It is a beautiful setting to explore such a fabulous city. Thanks so much for sharing your opinions with us, Hollie! One of the main reasons people choose to stay with us is the breakfast, which isn't just about quantity (there are six courses) but also about reinventing what breakfast should be: different everyday, tasty and not totally based on eggs and grease! So pleased you enjoyed and next time Meredith is in need of spreading her wings, you know where we are...

Even when we arrived a day or 2 early - Phil's remarkably warm welcome, was our treat. While he ushered us into the first lounge to relax while he delivered the drinks - I, John Parker's granddaughter from Scotland eagerly peeked into each room to absorb the age and style of Grandfather's era.... These cottages and rooms are utterly unspoilt by time and have weathered the storms of the Cape so well on the outside. The property lies in a pristine vicinity being very close to the centre of Cape Town - where J.Parker's architectural firm was in the early 1900's. His amazing architectural works are many and well worth a visit e.g. The Synagogue and Gardens Presbyterian Church and Mowbray Presbyterian Church, to mention just 3 of 800.

I truely enjoyed the immense privilege of being in "Parker Cottages" for four heavenly days of spoiling. Having showered in Grandfather John's bath and viewed his loo were historical highlights amongst sharing endless stories of his amazing life over the breakfast table with many guests.
Phil again was undaunted by my long list of invited guests for drinks - I guess because they have proved to be good adverts for the Cottages and our book.!!

Just a wee fun story about John Parker.........it was when Susie his Scottish wife was heavy with her fifth pregnancy that John turned to her and said "Susie, I think our family of five has outgrown this cottage and it is time for us to move to something bigger " - so soon thereafter they moved to the " Firs" in Rosebank - the present Irma Stern Museum and gallery - where the family grew by another three! My mother was the eighth child. John Parker soon became the First Mayor of greater Cape Town 1913- 1915 which you you will soon be able to learn more of in a book we his grandchildren are preparing about John Parker.

Phil and Liz,, ( though she was studying elsewhere during our stay), you are surely the perfect pair to manage" the Parkers ". You so generously give of yourselves to us as your guests and your management is unmatchable. We so easily befriended you delightful staff and we commend you for attaining such a high standard, on every level in our "Parker Cottages". It was a sheer pleasure for us to find you in Grandfather John's home....... We are a huge family and many are now itching to experience our find in beloved Cape Town.

Room Tip: John and Susie's room....with his bath, - and the loo down the passage!

Absolutely the best B&B we have ever encountered, with wonderful period rooms, spectacular breakfasts (changing specials every day and unlimited choices), warm, friendly and superbly informed and helpful hosts, and a great location. We cannot recommend it too highly.

Thanks so much, Steven and Monica! Lexi and Diana, our managers, will be delighted to read this. We were away during your stay at Parker Cottage so it's doubly great to know that you were looked after just as well as if we'd been here ourselves. We will certainly see you again!

Its hard to eulogise further without sounding like we might be related to Phil and Liz - but there you are, because our stay at Parker cottage was literally faltless. A wonderfull welcome with glass of wine - 'orientation' on the veranda while Phil made phone calls to book trips, dinner out and taxis - nothing was too much trouble. Lovely comfortable spacious rooms (we sampled three different rooms) quirky quality art work throughout the house, fantastic breakfasts (you wont need lunch) We will be back!

Room Tip: All the rooms are lovely

How can I possibly add to the glowing reports from all the other happy visitors. I'll try.
A brilliant start to our time on RSA. A great welcome from Phil, Diane and Liz. Lovely setting in the quiet suburb of Tamboerskloof. Great views of Table Mountain from the end of the road. Wonderful breakfast on the terrace and the divine ambience of the wine tasting evening.
Do, do take the Red Bus Tour and go up Table Mountain. Ask Phil to book it all for you, no problem.
Sorry we were only there for two days, BUT WE WILL BE BACK.............

Room Tip: Don't worry, they are all good

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Welcome to Parker Cottage! We’re a little different than the usual hotel or guesthouse experience. Rather than being just a conventional ‘place to sleep’, we offer a very much unplugged, urban retreat right in the creative heart of Cape Town. So although we offer free and fast internet, we don't do minibars, piped music or even reception desks. Think of us like a country house in the middle of the city. We’re the kind of place where you can rediscover the art of conversation, endless breakfasts and total serenity. Parker is a social place too: our legendary free wine evenings occur at least twice a week and there’s no ‘cut off’ time for our gourmet breakfasts either. ... more   less
