We had a wonderful trip to South Africa which is one of my favorite destinations in the world. We went to Kruger Park, Fancourt, Cape Town, Wine Tasting and much more. Everything was perfect except the PortsWood Hotel. We stayed here twice. The first time everyone was fun, friendly and helpful. The 2nd time, we fell on a front desk Clerk who was abnoxious, wines that you could not drink and we asked for a room with a bath and got one with a shower. We asked for a 2 PM check out because we had 2 golf bags and a lot of luggage and they charged us for the room. I am a Marriott Life Time Elite Member as well as a Hyatt Life Time and never in 30 years of travel has this attitude at this reception. If you want to enjoy South Africa you will. People are wonderful everywhere except here at the PortsWood. There are a lot of very good hotels in Cape Town with excellent service (Have been 20 times). Please for your sake chose another one. Hope this helps you avoid having a couple of days of frustration

Room Tip: Take a high level room

A good clean basic hotel. No balcony for the room which was fairly small but it was clean & comfortable & sufficed for the 5 nights we stayed there. This is really a tourist / business traveller hotel. Staff are friendly & courteous & the food in the restaurant is excellent. Extremely well situated to the V&A Wharf (which includes a PicknPay supermarket therein so you can stock up on drinks from there for your bar fridge if you like). Breakfast was included in our rate & it is excellent - best coffee (freshly made cappuccino) I had on our 1 month trip.

Room Tip: Avoid rooms overlooking the courtyard as the noisy diesel tour buses start showing up anywhere from 6am onwards.

This hotel is in a really great location, a short walk to the Waterfront and very convenient for the Hop-on Hop-off Bus.
Great breakfast, friendly, helpful staff, good wifi and well-priced.
Recommended.

We stayed here for 3 nights at the end of our holiday and wanted somewhere very central so that we could walk to everywhere on the Waterfront - this hotel was just perfect for that. Having read other reviews, we opted to upgrade to a larger room and are pleased that we did so because our room was double the size it would otherwise have been. Very comfortable room with all mod-cons, fantastic valet parking service and breakfast was good although nothing out of the ordinary but I probably wouldn't expect anything more from a city centre hotel. All in all, this hotel provided us with what we wanted and we would return although would definitely upgrade to a larger room again if able to do so.

Room Tip: If you can, upgrade to a larger room. Standard rooms are small.

Stayed here many times and always enjoyed it. Rooms are good, breakfast excellent.

Avoid a room at the very end of the corridors (e.g. rooms 343) as you can walk a mile. What is this? When you stay for only 1 night, they put you far, far away....! Anyway I requested another room without too much issues, so problem was solved quickly.

Location, very close to the Waterfront, is excellent!
