Stayed here for two nights - very acceptable and right on the waterfront. Very helpful and courteous staff. Rooms slightly tired and sound proofing could have been better but on the whole a good choice.

We spent 4 nights making this location our hub for our stay in Cape Town. Room was lovely, breakfast delicious (It was the only meal we ate at the hotel). The location was perfect. Just close enough to the V&A Waterfront to allow for easy access but far enough away to give us a break from the hustle and bustle of the tourist area.

Have stayed in this hotel 3 times but latest visit was like something out of Faulty Towers. They really seem to be out of their depth with even the simplest request and dear help you if you are a business traveller. My colleague had the terrible experience of discovering that another person had moved into her room even though her clothes etc where already in the room. The hotel had no idea how this happened but after investigation it appears that a person can just turn up at reception say they are staying in room number X and they will happily give you a key, no check on ID etc. As for billing, it appears to be produced by a random number generator and they'll charge parking, drinks etc even though you don't have a car etc with you. The AC machine is akin to having a diesel engine in your room it is that noisy.

The hotel is well-situated on the V&A Waterfront, directly above the Portswood public carpark. It's a bit pricey, but the the staff is extremely helpful in setting up different tours and storing luggage after check-out. The complementary breakfast is outstanding. The rooms are appointed nicely and have adequate space. Overall, a nice place, but probably not worth the steep prices commanded.

Room Tip: Although it bills itself as a waterfront hotel, this terms is generously applied. Looking at the lay...

Location, location, location ~ around 100m. from the V&A Waterfront this hotel is perfectly situated for shopping, restaurants and coffee stops, for taxis, the open-top step on-step off bus stops as well as services to/from the city centre, boating excursions (including Robben Island), Table Mountain, tours to the picturesque coast and countryside around Cape Town and even a stroll into the city centre. Altogether a delightful, very clean and hospitable hotel with very cheerful and efficient staff in a most desirable area. But best to leave the room curtains closed during the day to keep out the hot sun!

Room Tip: An east-facing room could be cooler as air conditioning unit is quite noisy.

We stayed at The PortsWood for one night, and also enjoyed a good dinner there a couple of weeks ago. It was really nice, clean, and everyone at the hotel are very helpful and friendly. The only thing that wasn't quite as we wished was the aircondition. It's noisy! However we had a great time and found the location good as well. It just a short walk down to the Waterfront.
