The Commodore V & A Hotel was a excellent place to stay in Cape Town, it is in a great location to the waterfront, only walking distance. Our room had a wonderful view of Table Mountain from the balcony. The staff and service was excellent, not like anything we have experienced. All of the staff was very friendly, sociable, and quite helpful with directions to Cape Point. I can not wait to go again, next time we will bring the children to this beautiful and wonderful city.

I traveled to South Africa alone (I'm a 60+ granny) and was looking for a safe, comfortable, affordably-priced hotel and this is it. It is close to the V&A Waterfront, which seems to be the largest tourist attraction. The hotel serves a limited dinner menu, which I sampled- sandwiches, etc and the dinners were OK and cheap. too. The dining patio overlooks a small lagoon.

The breakfast buffet (included in my room price) was great. Lots of different items on offer and friendly service in an attractive space, too. In fact, all the staff were very friendly. The room was clean, and quiet, with good air-conditioning, a nice bathroom and plenty of room for several people. I booked through Amex and paid about $65 a night.

There is no car or shuttle service to anywhere, but there is a travel desk in the lobby and they are very helpful. It's about a 10 minute walk to the V&A and seemed safe- the police have a little hut right across the street. To me, the best thing was the internet access, with computers, for about $3 for 15 minutes. I was able to send e-mails and there was good phone service, too. There is a small exercise room and a tiny hot tub outside.

All in all, an excellent place to stay, good value for money. I would stay there again when next in Cape Town.

I’ve stayed in this hotel on numerous occasions and it’s always been a positive experience. The rooms are clean, the hotel is well situated and you cannot beat the price. I’ve found the staff to be very helpful, on the one occasion we wanted to extend our stay and our luggage was looked after in the time we were ‘between rooms’.

Although the hotel is situated in a convenient location and is part of a well known chain, this particular hotel is poorly managed. Having spent 4 hours traveling, all I wanted was a peaceful rest ahead of business meetings the next day. I was placed in a room next to a gym. The gym is supposed to be in use from 06h00 to 22h00 but the hotel does nothing to ensure observance of these hours. Just when I was preparing to sleep, I heard loud noises from the gym TV coming through. I went into the gym to find that there was no one there but the TV had just been left blaring at a high volume. I switched it off and thought my problems were solved. At 01h00 a.m. I awoke to the sounds of somebody exercising in the gym! I could hear everything! I called reception and asked to be moved to another room - only to be told there were no rooms available as "the hotel was fully booked"! At 06h00 the following morning I again was woken by somebody on a treadmill! After complaining and finally speaking to the manager, it turned out that there were other rooms available but "it would probably have been inconvenient to move me at 1 a.m."; the manager wanted to find out from me the name of the person I had spoken to at the reception (why would I know - I thought as manager he should know who was on duty at reception); and the room I was in was known for complaints due to gym noise (yet the hotel still doesn't enforce gym hours)! Despite an "apology", the hotel still charged me in full! One final thing - the blanket in the room had old stains and the bed over-cover had lipstick marks on it! Think twice before spending your money here!

This hotel is a great base from which to explore Capetown and its surrounding areas. A ten minute walk from the V&A waterfront, it is ideally located. The rooms are clean and comfortable with air con. Staff were extremely helpful and pleasant. Breakfast was good value. There is a small little gym and a jacuzzi too but no where to lie out and as the front of the hotel does not get the sun in the afternoon, this is not a hotel that is suitable for sunworshipers! All in all well worth the money. We would definately come back.
