We had a wonderful stay at the Mount Nelson. After being in transit over 25 hours, the welcoming staff was a gift. Our room was spacious and the bathroom was huge. Throughout our stay we discovered new areas in the manicured grounds. Mount Nelson was walking distance to Long Street and the artisan market. In addition, they provide a free shuttle to the waterfront. The restaurant was excellent. In our minds, there were no disadvantages to note in this review.

Stayed there again after a few years (yes we really felt the financial crisis) and we had a great time. It is still the best hotel I have ever been and where I feel at home the most. Everything is perfect. We had a great room with mountain view and a balcony. It was spacious luxurious and nice. The staff is excellent. Very helpful without being too submissive or shy. We really had contact and fun. Everything in the hotel seems to be so obvious. You feel at home immediately. It is luxurious but not over the top. It has style but is also a bit rundown (at least the outside maintenance could do with some upgrading. a big part of our balcony door had rotted away) The gardens and the pools are wonderful and lush. The location, ritght in the center on Orange and Kloofstreet is excellent and there is more.
By far the best breakfast buffet I have ever seen, with a delicate equillibriance between a buffet and personal service on the most gorgeous terrace and garden.
Once you have been at the Mount Nelson, you don't want to go anywhere else!

This is being written long since we had the pleasure of staying in this wonderful hotel but happy memories live long. We stayed in Sept 12 and arrived early to the hotel after a long flight. We were greeted by wonderful reception staff who were most helpful and provided us with some well needed and tasty coffee while our room was being sorted.
The service in this hotel is nothing like I have seen, they are so helpful and friendly, always interested in your day and glad to help with trip ideas and restaurant recommendations. The breakfast was fabulous especially when you could sit in the conservatory basking in the morning sunshine while looking out on the lovely gardens. A MOST HERE is the Afternoon tea where you are treated to the wonders of Sydney's (tea master) tea knowledge and he made our tea so much fun.
The only small down side was our shower which tended to run cold after one shower (from the power shower that is).
Other than that it was just wonderful and I can not wait to go back to stay.
To Byron, Michelle, Sydney all the wonderful staff of the Nelson thanks so much for making our time in Cape town magical and memorable. Till we meet again! :-)

Room Tip: Get a room looking out towards table mountain or the gardens

I stayed for 2 nights in this extraordinarily beautiful hotel as part of a large group. Our suite was huge, beautifully furnished and spotlessly clean. The bed was extremely comfortable and the hidden TV was a lovely touch.
The staff could not have been kinder or more polite. Happy to help ( or just chat ) at any time especially with organising sight seeing trips etc.
The gardens are magnificent, and worth the price of the room just to see them.
Breakfast was totally delicious with both outdoor or indoor seating overlooking the extremely inviting pool.
A truly wonderful experience.

Room Tip: The Arundel suite, huge rooms with view over fountain and gardens from fabulous balcony. The York s...

Stayed here for a week as part of a business conference that I organised. Could not have picked anywhere better in terms of location, quality of rooms, customer service and fantastic food. Our large party had a great time with nothing too much trouble by any of the staff. The concierge desk were very helpful and organised transport and sightseeing for us. The private dinners, bar food and breakfasts were all delicious and freshly prepared. There was always plenty of options to choose from and constantly topped up. The swimming pools were clean and the hotel grounds were beautifully manicured. The famous afternoon teas proved very popular and again delicious. Hotel was very busy but still maintained its lovely quiet Colonial style ambiance. Will come here again for vacation next time!

Room Tip: Our group had 30 plus bedrooms booked and nobody complained about any of the rooms allocated. One in...

A beautiful hotel in glorious settings. Large , luxurious rooms and attentive staff. Food was superb. The views simply wonderful. Everything was to a very high standard, as you would expect from a hotel of this caliber. You will love the colonial style and history it brings. The gardens and grounds are spacious, colourful and delightful to wander round. Courtesy car available at times to take you to the waterfront/Camps Bay or to the mountain. Walking distance to some great bars . On our return visit we were upgraded to a breathtaking suite . Nothing was too much trouble for the staff. Highly recommended. I can't imagine retuning to Cape Town and not staying there. An unmissable experience.
