“Full Whiskey Tasting at Bascule Bar”
Reviewed January 9, 2013

I organised a Whiskey Tasting experience at Bascule for a large group of friends. I was originally searching the internet for locations for Whiskey tasting experiences when I found Bascule advertised as a venue. I booked through the hotel's event's coordinator who was very friendly and professional. The hotel organised everything we needed for event. The Whiskey tasting which to our surprise included pairings with some food, was conducted by someone who had exceptional knowledge of everything Whiskey. The entire day was a huge success, I have to compliment the Cape Grace on such exceptional staff and quality of service.
The experience they delivered was far beyond what I was expecting.

Stayed for 4 nights. Was upgraded to a table mountain view room overlooking the Marina, which was a nice surprise and a fab view. Great location on the V &A waterfront, which was safe to walk around at day/night.

The pictures on the hotel website are representative of the room. It was a good size and the separate dressing area was a nice touch. Good sized bathroom and impressive range of amenities. The bed was huge and super comfortable. 2 bottles of free bottled table water were provided on a daily basis. Good aircon.

Public areas of the hotel were decorated to a very high std. Good choice at breakfast and it was great to have breakfast served until 11am.

As other reviewers have commented all of the staff were very friendly and helpful. We used the hotel car to take us to the city bowl, which saved the hassle of parking and was a nice touch.

As we had a night flight it was great to have the shower room facility to freshen up pre flight.

Would recommend and would return.

Cape Grace is really in a league of its own, there’s something special about this chic yet friendly 5* hotel – when people say it feels like home, it’s true. The staff blew me away, smiling, happy to help but they don’t overdo it which happens too often at luxury hotels. Waking up to a view of Table Mountain was picture perfect after arriving the night before. The local was second to none, a scenic walk to the V&A waterfront (designer shopping, live bands, the craft market & the harbor. Surprises & sweet treats (such as chocolates, evening port in the library, whiskey tasting & fresh baked goods) are around every bend. A friend at home asked me to pick up a product at the Cape Grace spa for her - they called my room to say they unfortunately didn’t have it anymore but had found a place around the corner that carried it & they’d go pick it up for me or I could take one of the complimentary cars (which I did & the driver was just fab). While the hotel is great for couples & families, I as a solo female traveler never felt out of place or awkward for a second! An unforgettable stay & I can’t wait to come back

Beautiful and centrally located property only a few minutes away from the waterfront yet a 20 minute or so walk from city center. Food was excellent and the staff superb (especially the concierges who were some of the best I've ever dealt with).

I would definitely come back next time I'm in Cape Town.

Quick piece of advice when you book a room: consider asking for a view of the Marina and not the Port. The port side is more noisy and looks onto a working port (think cranes and the like) so a Marina view overlooking nice boats and with a view of Table Mountain seems at least to me like the better option.

We stayed at the Cape Grace from the 8/12/12 for 14 nights and it was awesome !!!one of the
best hotels we have ever stayed in (we are not easily impressed) the room was pure luxury,
the staff, Hoon, Raynaurd, Julie and Cue to mention a few, were so good to us nothing was too
much trouble they made us feel so welcome. The breakfast was also amazing anything you wanted
our favorite was the eggs benedict yummy! The hotel is perfectly located on the marina just a minutes walk from the V&A waterfront with over 450 shops!! plus lots of great restaurant's and
lots of entertainment day and night. A great base for exploring Cape Town and beyond .

Room Tip: Luxury room overlooking the marina

This is one of the best hotels we've stayed at. The only complaint we had was that wifi access should be unlimited and free but that is a minor quibble. We had a rooftop room with a terrace so a wonderful view over the V & A Waterfront with every possible amenity. We went down for breakfast all 3 mornings we were there and it was definitely in our top 3 hotel breakfasts. Room service was also efficient and delicious...and very reasonable at the moment for UK travellers. Service exceptional, particularly the concierge service and the in-house complimentary driver (ask for Bernard-charming, non-intrusive and knowledgeable).

Room Tip: Room 402-rooftop terrace room so lovely to sit out

We travel so much that one of the most important things for us in a hotel is a supremely comfy bed. And here we had one of the most comfortable beds of the year (alongside the Ferme de Montagne in the French Alps).. Sheer bliss. The service was perfect, genuinely friendly, completely professional and knowlegeable. A reasonably spacious room, a quiet night, and excellent breakfast, served till late in the morning. Highly recommended.
