Our third time staying at hotel and cant wait to go back. Nothing is too much trouble for any of the staff. Gerald makes the best cocktails and ensures there are samosas and spring rolls available. Very friendly, clean and hospitable in all ways. Dave, Jacqueline, James and Rachel Robinson

Another lovely weekend at a hotel centrally situated in Cape Town, close to many amenities, but importantly close to the Mother Synagogue of Cape Town. Hotel is very peaceful and tranquil. Exceptionally clean rooms and bathrooms. Just a pity that the airconditioner is like a noisy motorbike. It was not only in our room, but also in my mom's room. Ok so we had open windows. The hotel has a very lovely outside area with a beautiful swimming pool. Unfortunately did not have a swim. Would certainly recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: I prefer rooms on the side, as then one can sleep really peacefully with the windows open

This has always been a good place for me to stop-over;Right in town and close to the freeways going to the business areas and the suburbs and yet somewhat quiet in pretty grounds with a decent view and a pool.

Room Tip: Rooms facing/with a view of Table Mountain are quieter

I stayed at the Garden Court de Waal in Cape Town from 1/18/2013-1/24/2013. I was with a group of 24, including 22 college students and 2 professors. Our room got robbed the second night of our stay while my roommate and I were at dinner. The robber(s) stole my $1,000 Nikon camera and lens, along with my credit card. My roomate got his new $1,500+ Cannon camera and iPad stolen. The safe in our room was BROKEN and so we hid these valuables under many clothes in our bags. Additionally, an entire family (mother, father, grandparent and child) were asleep in their room two stories above ours when the robber broke into their room- stealing the fathers wallet (which was recovered).

We met with the general manager, Deidre Strydom, who was helpful looking through the video from the night of the robbery. However, she did not offer ANY reimbursement for the incident whatsoever. We expected our stay free of charge at the least. Management did not even go out of their way to ensure that we were satisfied for the duration of our stay. For this reason, I say BEWARE- think twice about staying at this hotel for your own safety.

Room Tip: Make sure your safe works. Check with the manager, Ms. Strydom to make sure security is taking proac...

The safety of our guests and the security of their personal belongings are of the utmost importance to the Garden Court de Waal. As is common practice around the world, we provide electronic safes where guests can lock valuables safely. I do understand that the safe was not operational on check in however the procedure would be to report a defective safe and we would repair it immediately or provide another alternative. When guests choose not to use the safe, as in this case, we investigate thoroughly to see if we can find out what happened.
In the case of Mr Green, there were no signs of tampering or unlawful key card entery into the room as found from the room key records, we identified that no staff members entered their room that evening or period under investigation.
We therefore informed Mr Green that the circumstances surrounding the incident remain inconclusive, and that the hotel cannot accept any responsibility for the reported loss. We communicated with him when he reported the theft, when we began our investigations, and when we had the investigation report.
We care very deeply about our guests, and their personal belongings. However, in this case, there is nothing to indicate involvement by hotel staff in the theft, or liability by the hotel. We sympathise with Mr Green, but the fact remains that the room safe was there for the protection of their valuables, and it was unused.
