“a passion for perfection”
Reviewed October 25, 2013

Combine German Engineering, a passion for perfection, and Cape Town style—and you have African Home.

Located on a hill, in quiet residential neighborhood in SeaPoint. We hike a lot, so for us it’s an easy walk to: a variety of restaurants; cafes; small superette-type shops; the bus-stop for the invaluable hop-on/hop-off CitySightseeing Cape Town Tour Bus; and the paved walking/jogging path that hugs the Atlantic shoreline. This world-class guest house, is a great base for independent exploration of Cape Town, with or without a car.

Light, airy rooms are literally spotless. Beds & bedding are remarkably comfortable. So comfortable, in fact, that we did not miss our bed at home, at all. Showers are hot & have great water pressure.

Lots of extras: night security, friendly and very accommodating support staff, turn-down service, slippers, bathrobes, room safes, candle & torch lit courtyard at night, prompt laundry service for a small fee (no need to over-pack), light lunches and beverage service available for a very reasonable fee, sparkling swimming pool, and seamless worry-free arrangement of airport transfer on day of arrival/departure.

Generous and kind—Ralf, Stephan, and their entire support staff, uphold high standards. They live with integrity—quietly operating in many ways that make this a good choice for responsible/green travel. This was such a refreshing break from the plastic spoons, paper cups and styrofoam plates that have sadly become the norm in American culture.

Yes, we can confirm all the fabulous reviews that rave about their Signature Breakfast—But—African Home is much more than that!

Dear Lisa and Mike-
it was a pleasure having you as our guests here and we appreciate your perception of us trying to be as "perfect" as we can with our passion to spoil our guests and a slight idea of what German Engineering is able to do. Would love to do that any time again for you - and if it is just for preparing some poached eggs :-)

This was our last accommodation after a long journey through the garden and wine route in South Africa. We were welcomed by the owners, which were really kind and know how to provide a friendly service to their guests.
The decoration of the rooms was lovely. They care about any single detail: organic soap, bath gel, body cream, shampoo, conditioner, face towels, hand towels, bathrobe, etc
The only thing it didn't work, at least in my room, was the floor heater. However, I had in the bedroom an electrical heater but it didn't work either.
Breakfast was delicious, many different things from other places of the same range we stayed in during our trip.

Room Tip: Make sure the heater from the room works during winter.

My wife and I tremendously enjoyed our stay in September in Capetown. The two german owners of African home gave us plenty of great ideas on what to do and where to eat and made resrvations in each of the great restaurants in Capetown and Houtsbay and suggested the Hop-on Hop-off bus for the first day... a great deal and fabulous views from teh top of the bus! The African Home is simply beautiful...the rooms, the african art, the swimming pool, the terrace, the couches with colourfull pillows, thehand-picked breakfast buffet, indoor and outdoor tables, in a nice and quite but during the day lively part of town, etc etc.... We absolutely want to come back! Marc and Annelies

Stayed here in the beginning of this month and right from the start it was a delight. Ralf and Stephan make you feel welcome and help you in every way possible to make your stay pleasurable.

Loved their small touches of having a chocolate in the room every night or the first briefing Stephan gave me with a map as to the general lay of the land.

Breakfast is amazing and what i liked best was the care and attention to detail there was in everything. Ralf's coffee is brilliant and will sure cheer you up after a long day of sight seeing. The red tour bus stop is like four minutes away and so is very convenient. I was alone and have walked way past 9pm very safely around in the area.

I strongly recommend you to stay here if you like peace and quiet, a homely atmosphere not compromising on quality and great human beings as hosts. I for sure am coming back here again when i am coming to Cape Town next.

Room Tip: The rooms on top have a balcony which is very nice if you smoke and can quickly go out. Smoking is n...

This guesthouse is more like a luxury boutique B&B you would find in the UK - beautifully styled, outstanding breakfasts and the most helpful & welcoming hosts ever!

The location was great - I was travelling on my own so wanted to be somewhere safe and close to places to eat etc. The guesthouse is only a couple of roads back from the seafront which is great to walk along and full of other people wandering along or having a picnic on the green. A 20 minute walk away is the V&A Waterfront in one direction and a 30 minute walk the other way takes you to Clifton beach. A few moments walk away was some great places to eat (top tip - Jazz Brunch on a Sunday at Winchester Mansions).

The guesthouse itself is spotlessly clean and the owners have thought of everything you may need to make the stay relaxed and easy. The beds were very comfortable, and there has obviously been much thought into the decor which is a modern twist on a more traditional African style.

Breakfast on the terrace was the highlight - fresh fruits, pastries, traditional European cold meats & cheeses, cereals and the best omlettes alongside either a proper coffee or a huge selection of artisan teas.

The pool area was great for an afternoon drink in the sunshine after a day seeing the sights of Cape Town.

The hosts were very helpful with suggestions for places to go, booking taxis (and making sure you paid the right price!) and with excellent restuarant reccomendations.

Thanks Ralf & Stephan!

Even though we visited Cape Town for the fourth time, it has been the first time we really felt at "home" staying at African Home Guesthouse.
The ospitality of the hosts Ralph and Stephen was fantastic! They are so kindly and available helpful.

The Guesthouse has a perfect position in a very quiet street stroll to the beach and restaurants and a very beautiful pool! Rooms and bathroooms are new and spacious.
The Breakfast is awesome...a real Italian Cappuccino with very good cakes ... fruit... and many other things.
We have tried many other places during our previous trips to Cape Town...but this is definitively our favourite one!

This is a new discovery in Sea Point. Obviously, the location is superb but the cherry on top is the fantastic reception by the hosts, Ralf and Stefan. I left feeling I was the best guest ever - knowing that every guest must feel this way! The accommodation itself is superb and the breakfast is marvelous.

Room Tip: I counted 34 stairs from the parking area to my room. When making a reservation, mention whether cli...
