For a fun night, recommend sitting at the counter with a view of the kitchen action and helpful explanations from the chef de cuisine. The food was generally excellent, with a bit of up and down, and unlike some tapas places many of the portions were quite generous. If you've never been before it's worth checking out directions since it wasn't clear at first where in the mill it is (it was dark out). It's a tasty, inventive menu that is well worth the trip.

One of the best meals I recently had in Cape Town was at the Pot Luck Club. The service was great and the food out of this world. I like the tapas concept - one gets to taste a variety of teh best chef in South Africa's food.

The restaurant sits on the sixth floor of an old grain silo in The Old Biscuit Mill in Salt River, with views to kill for. Wesley Randle was the sous chef at The Test Kitchen and has taken on the role of head chef at The Pot Luck Club, both owned by famed chef Luke Dale Roberts.

The food is unusual, expensive and absolutely exquisite. The chef sent out dishes he recommended which meant I ate things I may never have ordered and there was not a single dish I didn't love. Watermelon soaked in sake. Crispy curried celery leaves. Mushrooms on toast.

But far and away the most incredible thing on the menu is the Smoked Beef Fillet with Black Pepper and Truffle Cafe Au Lait. If I ate nothing but the truffle sauce for the rest of my life, I would die a very happy woman.

And keep room for dessert. Nectarine with malted popcorn ice cream.

The service was excellent, very efficient and knowledgeable staff. Love that you can see the chef working. It's a little loud in there but our waiter assured us they were aware of the acoustics problem and were trying to find a solution.

Even if it means not eating out again in a month, do it. It was fantastic.

The pot luck club is a bit like the OXOX tower in the London - right down to the view in the loo... Had an excellent time.

Just enjoyed a most enjoyable lunch at the pot luck club. Great views, relaxed atmosphere, attentive and informed service and exceptional food. Highlights were the fried calamari, turmeric and ginger dressing with fresh leek and chilli salad; char grilled prawns with Tom ka gai butter, roasted peanuts; chris a olives red pepper pesto and wonderful artisan bread; 5 spice glazed pork belly with cured apple; smoked beef fillet with black pepper and truffle cafe au lait; baby potato wedges with smoked paprika salt. Only the pear and almond tart slightly disappointed (being rather dry) but the pop corn ice cream was exemplary. An absolute must visit when in Cape Town.
