“Could not be better”

We went with Roelof from PG Tops on a day tour of the Cape Peninsula, including stops at Kommetjie, Cape Point and at the penguin sanctuary. Roelof was knowledgeable, friendly and considerate of all our needs. Highly recommended!

“Cape Town tour”
Reviewed July 31, 2013 via mobile

Just finished the 2nd tour booked through PG Tops. Day 1 was a city tour. Day 2 was a trip to wine country visiting Stellenbosch with lunch in Francshoek. I cannot say enough about the 2 tours. The guide Roelff was amazing, the sites we saw gave us a remarkable taste of what Cape Town is about. Our stay has been nothing short of awsome.

“Fantastic Private Tour”
Reviewed July 28, 2013

We booked four days with PG tops tours to see the Capetown area. We have booked many private tours and had many guides in the past. This was one of the best, specifically because of Roelf, who was our guide for our time there. We were able to pack many sites into our time there and felt like we saw a great deal of what there is to see, but we never felt rushed. Roelf was wonderful - he is flexible, knowledgeable, thoughtful, accommodating, and an all around extremely nice and fun guy. He quickly picked up on things we liked and would then plug more of that into the tour as we went along. The quality of our time there was made significantly better because of Roelf and we would highly recommend him as well as PG Tops in general.

“Thanks Yolonda and Godfrey!”
Reviewed July 16, 2013

We loved having Yolanda and Godrey as our tour guides while visiting the Cape Town area. Godfrey's Township tour just "knocked our socks off' (as the old saying goes.) We were a group of 3 high school students and 2 "teachers" and we learned so much by seeing the Langa Township through Godfrey's eyes. I'm so glad that we did that tour on our first day in Cape Town. We all highly recommend it.

And Yolanda was just the most amazing breath of fresh air. Her energy and enthusiasm kept us upbeat and anxious for the next turn in the road. She showed us the Cape Point area on a gloomy, rainy day, but it did not seem that way to us. We loved her tour and loved her personality. She drove us the 4.5 hours each way to Gondwana, too. We spent a great deal of time with Yolanda, and HIGHLY recommend her. Thanks so much to you both. Our school will see you next year, for certain. :)

Thanks for your review! Ja, the unsung hero of tour guiding in Cape Town is sometimes those long transfers to get to the safari parks, I'm glad we could succeed in making even that bit fun and informative.

“Thank you PG tops for an amazing experience!”
Reviewed July 6, 2013

Just got back from South Africa and loved our time in Cape Town. I think Cape Town on its own is an exceptional place and we would've loved our time anyway, but having great guides to accompany us to the different sites was definitely a bonus I did not expect. Our guides from PG Tops were absolutely AWESOME--not only are they were well informed about the places we visited, but they were very personable and friendly. One huge difference I noticed from guides i've had in the past is that they are not just trying to get their shift done and wanting to get their time with us out of the way; they were hospitable and let us have our time at all the places we visited so that we could appreciate each spot they took us to. We didn't feel rushed once.

Me and a group of 5 other girlfriends spent 4 1/2 days in Cape Town; 4 of which we used PG Tops to guide us. Day 1 - Our guide, Godfrey, met us at our hotel and we started the day driving through District 6 and visiting Langa township. We spent about 3-4 hours within the township touring a home shared by 3 families, visiting a preschool, and visiting a local bar within the area. Living in the township himself, we felt we got a better idea of the life there and appreciated that. It was as if someone was inviting us into their home so that we could have a glimpse of the life there. We were supposed to go to Table Mountain on this day also, but because of the rain, it was closed. Godfrey improvised by showing us some other sites in Cape Town and more than made up for our missing Table Mountain that day. He was great. Day 2 - For the rest of our Cape tours, Roelof guided us, and he was wonderful. I was amazed by his people skills and knowledge being as young as he is. We spent this day doing the Cape Peninsula tour. The Cape seaside is one of the most picturesque coastal areas i've ever seen. We spent the whole day stopping along all the different points, from Cape of Good Hope to Capepoint to Boulder beach in Simon's town. Day 3 - Shark diving. We arranged our shark cage diving through PG Tops who works with Marine Dynamics. It's about a 2-3 hour drive from Cape to Gaanesbai but we thought it was well worth it. Well maybe 2 of the 5 ppl I travelled with didn't think so, as they got seasick and didn't feel up to doing the actual dive. I'll write about Marine Dynamics and the dive on another review, but they were great. Day 4 - Robben Island and the wine country in the afternoon. Because it was rainy or didn't fit into our schedule the other 3 days, Roelof got us to Table Mountain on this morning. It was foggy but as it's one of the top sites there, glad we were able to go up. From here, he took us to the port for Robben Island. That was a great visit. He dropped us off at the port and met back with us when we arrived back. Roelof gave us time to grab a bite and shop around the waterfront, and then it was a mad dash to the wine country. Unfortunately, we didn't get to go to Stellbosch which was the plan. Most of the places stop doing tastings at about 5, and because we spent a little more time shopping and made the stop at Table Mountain, we wouldn't have gotten there on time. However, Roelof did a great job of improvising and getting us to a nice spot in Paarl. 4 of the 6 of us don't drink, and when I let Roelof know this earlier in the day, while 2 of us tried the wine, he set it up so the the other 4 could have a "chocolate" tasting which they seemed to enjoy. He was also going to take us to cheese tasting spot, but because we wouldn't have gotten there on time as we were already tasting our chocolate and wine, he surprised us with cheese after our tastings, that he rushed to get at some point while we were doing our tastings. It was a perfect end. We reached Cape in the evening and one of the girls wanted to drive by Camp's Bay. I didn't think we had time and thought it was definitely way past the time he needed to spend with us, but he was so accommodating that he said he could drive by there and he did. At the end of our trip we were sad to say goodbye to him, it was as if we had another friend spending those days with us. I have travelled quite a bit, mostly visiting sites w/o guides, but of all the guided tours i've had in the past, this surpassed my expectations. I will definitely recommend PG Tops to anyone I know visiting South Africa in the future.
