Owner description: Uthando (Love) South Africa is an internationally award winning and unique Non Profit Organisation and Fair Trade certified company. Uthando raises funds and other forms of assistance for a broad range of inspiring and innovative community development projects in South Africa. Uthando runs tours as daily scheduled tours AND tailormade private tours (for groups of any size). We take visitors into the townships (impoverished areas created during Apartheid on the outskirts of Cape Town) to visit incredible community development projects. We shine a light on the remarkable people and projects that are helping to build the new South Africa at grass roots level. On our tours we tell the remarkable story and history of South Africa and its brutal past, we discuss pertinent issues confronting our people, and provide an inspiring sense of hope through the efforts of dedicated grass roots leaders. Our tours are authentic, meaningful, non-invasive, respectful and very importantly beneficial to the communities being visited. The cost of our tours incorporate contributions to the projects that we visit and can thus also be considered philanthropic in nature. UTHANDO IS FAR MORE THAN JUST A NON PROFIT COMPANY, IT IS A LABOUR OF LOVE DEDICATED TO HELPING CREATE A MORE JUST AND EQUITABLE BRAVE NEW WORLD !

“Inspirational and genuine - don't miss this opportunity.”
Reviewed March 27, 2014

My experience visiting four of the Uthando supported projects was the highlight of my Cape Town visit. Xolani took us to visit a community garden where the women grow vegetables that are sold to restaurants in the city. I was fascinated that they use the garden left overs (tops, vines etc) to produce the gas they use to fire the stove. Talk about recycling - this is an amazing project. The Kiddies Educare was an uplifting visit. The director is an amazing and compassionate lady who started the program which now educates pre-school, kindergarten and first graders. The rooms full of smiling, learning youngsters were wonderful to see. Uthando partners with Kiddies Educare and helped them build the school building they now occupy. We also visited a women's center where the ladies develop skills that further their livelihoods. Our last stop with a Sr. Center. The ladies and gentlemen welcomed us with smiles and warm hearts. They wanted to learn about our lives and shared theirs with us. We got to sing and dance together and it felt like we were, for a brief while, a part of their community. This was a heart warming experience.
Xolani, thank you sharing your knowledge and passion for the work Uthando is doing in the townships. Also, please thank the adults and children who shared their daily life experiences with us. These visits have made a lasting impression on me and reinforced my belief that when we come together to share about good, we make friends across miles and boundaries of time and nationality.

“Inspiration, informative and beneficial to the local community”
Reviewed March 19, 2014

An amazing trip to enlighten tourists in a positive manor rather than the standard township tours! A way of seeing the truth about South Africa and the positive work being undertaken by inspirational individuals within townships. The children, women and older citizens were all welcoming and their smiles infectious. An emotional yet positive encounter. A special mention to the guides, who are well informed, knowledgable and bring a local view of how Uthando works and it's benefits.

“Reality check, inspirational and one of highlights of trip.”
Reviewed March 12, 2014

Who wouldn't be moved by children growing healthy veg for their families in the township…from little more than sand? This was a fascinating - and unmissable - trip, seeing the day-to-day realities of life in the townships. Uthando helps bring real, philanthropic hope with pragmatic and caring projects that help feed, provide medical care and bring dignity to peoples' lives. People who should be getting more help and finance from the government…Thank you James and [CLICK] Xolani. Will never forget my time with you.

“A must do”
Reviewed February 17, 2014

Our tour with Xolani was one of the highlights of our 2 weeks in Cape Town, it really is a must do for any visitor. Xolani himself was so passionate and knowledgeable, it was an absolute privilege to meet him. On the tour we visited several projects, at each one the people and their warmth and passion was inspiring. There is no begging bowl approach, nor did it feel in anyway voyeuristic (something we were especially concerned about), the whole experience was wrapped in a sense of sharing and enlightening and above all hope. Thank you Uthando.

It is always a pleasure and humbling to tell the South African story of hope and inspiration. We also strive to make the people visiting our country understand and learn about our history, but the most important aspects of our tours is to link development and tourism thus by shinning the light on the incredible work donen in our communities by our real heroes and heroines.....These is Good South African story and the purpose is to share it with the world.

“Fantastic experience”

We thoroughly enjoyed our day with Uthando, Xolani made us feel so comfortable in every place we toured, and told the history of South Africa so movingly, particularly the stories of Amy Biehl and the student uprisings. I highly recommend your company.
