“What a hidden secret..”
Reviewed February 16, 2012

My Husband and I have just got back from a 2 night stay at this wonderful hotel. We were in SA enjoying the Garden Route and were booked into the Bay Hotel Camps Bay, having read some awful reviews I decided to cancel out previous booking and began our search for somewhere that would live up to our expectations, boy this hotel lives up to everything and anything anyone would want. I cannot express just what a fabulous place this is. The staff are fantastic nothing is too much trouble, they are really fantastic people who go out of their way to make sure your stay here is memorable. The Hotel is immaculate and very tastefully decorated. A wonderful place with amazing views of Cape Town. A real gem. Cannot in anyway fault this place, we will be back.

Room Tip: All the rooms are amazing, if you want a view of Cape Town then check what the website says.

My wife and I have just returned from a 10 day memorable stay at the Mannabay in cape town. The guest house is absolutely beautiful, and both the house and the rooms are decorated with high quality furnishings which all make for an incredibly luxurious feel. Madre, the GM tirelessly ensures the place is always spot on, and runs an incredibly friendly and helpful team supported in particular by Shadrack, Simon, Chris and all the kitchen & chamber maids. The team really ensure that the Mannabay has a totally relaxed feel, and we were really gutted when we had to leave!! Breakfasts and high teas are sumptuous, and the free bar service is a great bonus too. The Mannabay don't provide lunches or dinners, but there are some nice neighbourhood restaurants, and taxis into town, the waterfront, or camps bay are cheap. Put simply this is a great find, and if I could pick this hotel up, and drop it in all of my future holiday locations, I would do it immediately and never look for another hotel again. If luxury intimate surroundings, personal and friendly service are your thing, look no further, a top place.

I wondered whether we should have chosen somehwere to stay by the waterfront, but once we had seen Mannabay, with its sumptuous yet relaxed and comfortable decor and atmosphere, I knew we had done the right thing. There is a wonderful view of Table mountain and the place exudes style and comfort. It is a taxi ride to the water front, but we really welcomed its quiet and peaceful atmosphere when we came back to the hotel. We had the Explorer room, with a fabulous view of Cape Town. The lovely Shadrack (who incidentally knows more about premiership football than most English people) is a real asset and makes you feel that holidays are simply for enjoying. In fact, the whole staff and management give this impression. Tea at 4pm is not to be missed! I will certainly stay here again when I return to CP and would thoroughly recommend it.

Do not hesitate to stay at the Mannabay, you will not be disappointed! Very elegant. clean and friendly guest house. The staff is always very helpful and friendly day and night. The rooms are spacious, with air-conditioning and flat TV screen. Free wi-fi all around the house and a guest computer if you need it. Breakfast is to die for and you can have free drinks at all time. during our stay, a complementary wine tasting was organised which was a really nice touch. Also on Valentine's day, all guests received a bottle a dessert wine with some chocolates. Waht a lovely touch. The manager Madre cannot do enough for you, she will book tours, taxis, restaurants and will advise you if required. The house is very well run (i.e. as soon as you go to breakfast you room is cleaned so when you get back it is ready for you, on a night they will also leave fresh water and glasses for you as well as a dressing gown and sleepers). Basically you are treated like royalty at the Mannabay. Oh and Iforgot the most important, everyday at 4pm they serve complimentary high tea where you will have a choice of cakes, teas, drinks, snacks, quiches... Great if you have not had the chance to have lunch yet due to touring and visiting. f you stay there, hope you enjoy it as much as we did!

Room Tip: We had the oriental room and we were very satisfied with it. All the others are bigger so you cannot...

Stayed for 4 nights. The hotel is nice with friendly staff. No restaurant so have to go out for dinner- they will order take away food to eat at the hotel, if required, but still a negative. Need to take a cab to get anywhere. A positive is the afternoon tea and standard drinks - beer, wine, spirits in late afternoon are 'on the house'. A final negative was the expectation that gratuities should be left for the staff - not experienced this anywhere before - except on cruises! In general, a nice hotel but with some drawbacks.

Thank you for your constructive comments. We cannot compete with the quality and diversity of the restaurants around us in Cape Town and therefore, as with the majority of boutique hotels in Cape Town, we do not offer dinner but rather encourage our guests to experience the incredible culinary options available in Cape Town. All our rates are on a bed and breakfast basis but we do however prepare light snacks for late evening arrivals if guests have missed our daily high tea which is included in our rates along with complimentary airport transfers. MannaBay is in the centre of Cape Town and just a short taxi journey from most tourist attractions, bars and restaurants. Long Street is 5 minutes away and the V&A Waterfront is 10 minutes away. Being a little higher up, on the slopes of Table Mountain, affords us the gorgeous city and mountain views that we enjoy. As you have mentioned, should guests wish to order in take-away our 24/7 butlers can prepare a table in our dining area and plate the food.

Gratuities are customary in South Africa and we are really proud of our exceptional team and the service that they deliver. In order to keep things fair, when settling the account, we offer guests the opportunity to leave a gratuity which we will split between all staff members equally. This is entirely discretionary and of course should be a reflection of the service you received – we’ll make sure that this is clearer for our guests from now on. We hope that these issues will not stop you returning to MannaBay and look forward to welcoming you back one day. Thanks again for coming to stay with us at MannaBay. Warm regards, Madre and the MannaBay team

We spent a fabulous weekend at Mannabay. Everything was absolutely wonderful, the rooms, the service, the food, the cleanliness but mostly just the total peace you feel in those surroundings! Every small detail has been checked and double checked, which makes the excellent service seem effortless. If we could take the staff, and the lovely linen, and the cappuccinos, and the sundowners, and the chocolates on the pillows, and the lovely decor, and interesting murals, and the well prepared meals, all home with us, then staying at Mannabay would be just like home!

Room Tip: Any room is good
