“This Hostel saved our SA Trip”
Reviewed March 6, 2011

This hostel is one of my favorites in my South Africa trip. The people, wayne and Stephen were so warm and friendly. they try to look for the best deals for us. The hostel per se feels like a home. its very clean and comfy. Free net access is also a plus. locations perfect. 10min walk to/from the central market, and 5 min away from good pubs and restaurant.

it also has a spectacular view of the table mountain. will surely stay in this place again once i visit again.

Thanks Ambertree lodge by the way for making our stay extra WAKAWAKA!! haha

Never having stayed in a hostel I wasn't quite sure what to expect, however the pictures looked good so I went ahead and booked; 3 nights for 3 ladies in our 40's travelling on a 6 week adventure and all far more used to 5*. Steven and Wayne could not have been nicer from the moment I booked I contacted Wayne and he organised the airport transfer for us. The hostel is not only clean and comfortable but extremely homely and welcoming. WiFi is free and breakfast is included, there's a lovely courtyard to sit out or a balcony with a wonderful view of table mountain. Would we go back again? We booked before we left to spend 3 nights on the return of our adventure.

Why did the last backpacker I stayed in during my trip through South Africa have to be the best? Why couldn't they just all be as clean, cosy, friendly and simply great as the Amber Tree Lodge? But back to the facts: they have great custom build beds, with comfortable mattresses that you would only get in a hotel, the showers and bathrooms are extraordinarily clean, they offer free internet and wifi, the location is perfect and the staff is super helpful and friendly. Keep up the good work!

This place was fantastic! It is run by 2 guys who will go out of the way to make YOUR stay an unforgettable experience. They will help you arrange excursions and they will answer any questions you may have regarding all of the best things to do in Cape Town and surrounding area. The hostel itself is a real pretty place. It's less than 1 year old and it has been taken care of very well. It is super clean, has comfy bed and clean linen. The bathrooms are very clean too. It really felt like our home away from home when we were in South Africa. We felt safe staying there and we are already planning a return trip to South Africa and another stay at the Amber Tree Lodge.

Fantastic location, can walk to Kloof street (major attraction).
Excellent service by hosts Steven and Wayne.
Very clean; linen smells fresh and bathrooms are classy.
The building is well looked-after.
Lovely balcony with hammock and unobstructed views of Table Mountain.
Small (only twenty beds), so intimate.
Road can bustle a bit at night; it's around the corner from a very vibey spot, Rafiki's, but also great in terms of location then.

This place was recommended to us by a dutch couple and we intended to stay few nights. We ended up spending the rest of our vacation (8 days) in Amber Tree. So much fun! This place has an addional value for your money and it was a homey way of experiencing Cape Town in very friendly atmosphere created by the hosts and their friends which bonds all visitors. Have fun!

the owner- Stephen, and manager- Wayne are what makes Amber Tree Lodge the best stay in cape Town. They are the most helpful people you could hope to meet... anything you want/ need to know, just ask them and they know themselves or know someone who can help.
The spacious lounge is comfortable to sit and relax when you've had a hard day taking int he sights around Cape Town which are all easily accessible from here. Long Street is a short walk (or stagger) away if you want to enjoy a night out to soak up the Cape Town atmosphere.
The beds are comfortable, the showers clean, a quiet courtyard area or the balcony with Table Mountain as the perfect backdrop.
There's nothing that could make this place better... it what turned my holiday from good to amazing.
