“Awesome, cozy hostel!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 14, 2013

This is a great hostel. Good location, not too far away from long street and the nearest bar is like 50 m away, but still it's quiet enough. The staff is awesome, they really make you feel right at home! The dorms are actually really cozy, beds comfortable and the toilets and showers are the cleanest I' ve ever seen in a hostel. The free breakfast, tea and coffe is a nice bonus. You also have free wifi throughout the hostel. It isn't a huge hostel which, I think, makes it more intimate and easier to get to know the other guests. I also like the common room with it's tv, dvd and movies, computer and books. Would absolutely revisit Amber Tree Lodge if I return to Cape Town!

Won't repeat the other reviews on here, but just to say it totally lived up to them. Nice rooms, really helpful staff, and good facilities. Good location, within walking distance of most parts of CT. Definitely would recommend.

The Amber Tree Lodge is a really great place to stay. Excellent people and really nice comfortable rooms. Location is really great too, close to lots of nice places to eat, ATM's, Supermarket etc. and Table Mountain is right there as well. If you plan to stay in Cape Town you should definetly check this place out.
We picked up some really great pointers for the rest of our trip from Henk.

The balcony is pretty amazing too. Great place to chill out and relax after a big day climbing the mountain or cruising around the city.

We loved this place so much we left our guitar there for other travellers to play. Have fun if you go there and have a jam.

We traveled trough South Africa for six weeks and this is by far the best hostel we stayed in. We had 10 days in Cape Town and didn't planned to stay at one place so we first booked just one night. Eventually we only stayed here because we liked the hostel and its location so much. The service is excellent and so are the rooms. It is very clean, spacey, the beds are really comfortable, the kitchen is also really good and the living room is very cozy. In short: we would highly recommend this place, it's wonderful.

If you plan to go to Cape Town I can definitively recommend Amber Tree Lodge! The location is great: small supermarket with two ATMs and many restaurants only 100 meters away. You can walk into the town center (approx. 15 min) or take a taxi after sunset. The staff is great: Stephen (owner) and Wayne (manager) are so friendly and helpful, they answer very quick to emails, book your transport from the airport... They make you feel like staying at friends! The lodge itself is clean, good equiped kitchen, in a quiet area... Go there!

Room Tip: we had a twin room in the backyard which was very nice and clean and very quiet!

We stayed for just under a week at the beginning of a 7 week trip to Cape town. As soon as we arrived we were made to feel very welcome. Wayne and hank were friendly and always keen to help and mentioned Arnold's restaurant which we visited twice, you have to try the game platter!! The room was homely and clean with a lovely ensuite. We thoroughly enjoyed our time there and found the hostel a great platform from which to explore capetown. We would definitely return!

Room Tip: We chose the twin ensuite. Prefect size and lovely bathroom. Out thr back and therefore quiet and ho...

An excellent backpackers - Friendly, informative and helpful owner, very clean and welcoming inside with plenty of good shower/toilet facilities. Good location just up the road from the excellent Arnold's restaurant, offering exceptional game meat dishes, and round the corner from a number of bars. Within walking distance there are plenty of nice bars, decent shopping and an independent cinema, The Labia, all in a safe area.
